Those who lack wisdom act contrary to what should be taken and abandoned, and as a result, sinful beings attain evil realms such as hell and experience endless varieties of suffering. Therefore, these suffering beings should be the object of your compassion. Compassion also arises from the suffering of beings. Therefore, due to the power of compassion, your heart, O Bhagavan, is contrary to peaceful Nirvana, and as long as all beings are not liberated, you will not enter Nirvana. Thus, the entire nature of the Engaging in Bodhisattva Deeds has been explained. Third, the limbs of accomplishing the activity are three: based on what cause it was done, for what purpose it was done, and dedicating the merit of what was done to Bodhi. The first part has two points. The first point is: Are these things you said earlier based on some sects, or did you compile them arbitrarily yourself? This sect is that the Bhikshu Chandrakirti has excerpted from the Madhyamaka treatises, and truthfully declares the scriptures and oral instructions. This sect mentioned above is that I, Chandrakirti, have excerpted the main points from the treatises of Nagarjuna, such as the Root Wisdom of the Middle Way, and have truthfully declared the scriptures of definitive meaning, and the oral instructions of the previous teachers transmitted from Nagarjuna. Therefore, it is not that I have arbitrarily fabricated it myself. Second, explaining the uniqueness of the treatise: Just as this Dharma is not in other treatises, this sect is also not in other treatises, the wise should know. Just as the Dharma called emptiness is not explained without inversion in other treatises besides the Madhyamaka treatises, so also the sect that is explained with debates in this treatise is not in other treatises that follow the Nagarjuna sect. Therefore, the wise who rely on meaning should know. The meaning is that the unique sect of Nagarjuna that I have explained in this treatise is only in this treatise, and even the disciples of the teacher have not clearly explained the teacher's sect without inversion.

It is said that those who, not understanding the teacher's intention, are frightened by merely hearing the words, abandon this teaching that reveals the profound nature of dependent arising, the Dharma that transcends the world. Therefore, it is said that this was composed in order to correctly explain the suchness of the Madhyamaka treatises. Because Nāgārjuna's ocean of wisdom is frightening due to its extremely vast blackness, people have abandoned all good methods from afar, therefore, the lotus of words, opened by the light of Candrakīrti's wisdom, contains the water of perfect explanation of the two truths, possessing eight qualities, and now Candrakīrti is fully satisfying the hopes of those fortunate beings who desire it. If even the authors of treatises such as the venerable Asaṅga, Vasubandhu, Dignāga, and Dharmapāla, were frightened by merely hearing the words and abandoned this Madhyamaka treatise that correctly explains profound dependent arising, then what? It can be said so. Then, how should this be understood? It has already been said that this profound and frightening truth can only be truly understood by people through past habits, and even if widely heard, others cannot understand it. Therefore, seeing those theories fabricated by their own intelligence and claiming to be their own doctrines, one should abandon affection for other doctrines like other doctrines and focus on this doctrine. The suchness that has already been explained, that is, profound dependent arising, those who do not have merit will be frightened merely by hearing it, and will even have goosebumps.

Furthermore, from the *Śataśāstra*: Even from the name of this Dharma, fear arises towards what is not the sacred Dharma. Who is it that possesses the power to not generate fear in others? It is as has been said. Therefore, this terrifying thing will surely be realized by someone who possesses the seed of familiarity with emptiness from the past, through the power of the cause. However, this profound [teaching], even if widely heard, will not be understood by another teacher who lacks the seed of particular faith in emptiness. Therefore, those who desire liberation should abandon the mind of delight in other tenets that speak of philosophical systems, which differ from this view of Nāgārjuna. How should they abandon it? Just as the tenets of the Tirthikas who assert a self should be abandoned by those who desire liberation. Why? Because those systems are merely the fabrications of the minds of the teachers who assert entities, and therefore they are external to the intention of the Sugata. Third, explaining from the perspective of dedicating the virtue done to enlightenment. From the declaration of the excellence of Nāgārjuna's system, may I, through the merit that pervades the limits of the directions, [shining] white in the sky of the mind, which is stained blue by the afflictions, like an autumn star, or like a jewel on the crest of a mind-serpent, may all beings in the world realize that and quickly go to the place of the Sugatas. From the declaration of the excellence of Nāgārjuna's system, the truth itself, without inversion, may I, Candrakirti, through whatever merit I have obtained, may all beings in the world who dwell in samsara realize the suchness of the two truths without inversion, and quickly go to the place of the Sugatas. What kind of merit? Pervading all the limits of the directions without obstruction, and in the sky of the mind, which is deeply stained and oppressed by afflictions such as desire, being as white as a spotless star in the middle of an autumn night, or like a wish-fulfilling jewel on the crest of a mind-serpent entwined with the poison of afflictions and conceptual thoughts. All the treatises have been explained. In the lands of India, Nepal, and Tibet, although many wise scholars who speak of the meaning of the sutras have appeared,
