Just as trees do not become a forest, when saying "the aggregates are mine," it is only saying that the collection of aggregates is "I," not the nature of the aggregates themselves. Even if saying the collection is "I," it is not reasonable. For example: Not a protector, not a tamer, nor a witness. Without that, it is not a collection. The Blessed One said: Oneself is one's own protector, oneself is also one's own enemy, when doing good and evil, oneself is one's own witness. Thus, "I" is said to be a protector and a witness. It is also said: Oneself being well-tamed, the wise will attain higher realms. Therefore, merely a collection, because it is not substantial, is neither a protector, nor a tamer or a witness. Therefore, the collection is not "I." Furthermore, at that time, the places where the collection of limbs reside, will become a chariot, the chariot and I are the same. As it is said in the sutra: What is called "I" is the mind of Mara, you are the observer. This aggregate of formations is empty, there is no sentient being in it. Just as the collection of limbs, relying on them, is called a chariot, similarly, relying on the aggregates, it is conventionally called a sentient being. Thus it is said, the chariot and "I" are the same. Therefore, when the collection of aggregates is "I," then the places where the collection of limbs of that chariot, such as the axle, reside, will become a chariot. That is also unreasonable, because the collection of limbs will become a chariot. Therefore, the sutra says that it exists relying on the aggregates, therefore the collection of aggregates is not "I." The sutra says that relying on the aggregates, it is nominally designated as "I," therefore the collection of aggregates is not "I," for example: relying on something to nominally designate something, that is not merely the collection of limbs that are closely taken, because it is nominally designated relying on it. For example, relying on elements such as earth to nominally designate blue and so on, and things born from the eye and so on, although nominally designated, they are not merely a collection of elements. If it is said that the collection of spokes and so on is not a chariot, however, when the spokes and so on have a special shape, then the name of chariot can be obtained.
