Or, it is said that the next world, which will mature in another life, does not exist. To this it should be said: How do you know that the next world does not exist? If the answer is: That is because it is not directly perceived. Then, is the fact that the next world is not directly perceived itself directly perceived, or is it not directly perceived? If the answer is that it is directly perceived, then, the fact that the next world is not manifest becomes directly perceived, therefore it will become real. In that case, since nothing will become unreal, the incomparable thing will also become unreal. Therefore, the elements exist, and the statement that the next world does not exist fails. If the answer is that it is not directly perceived, then, since it is not apprehended by anything, how can one infer from it that the next world does not exist? If it is said that it is apprehended from inference, that is also not accepted, because it has been promised: 'As much as is the sphere of the senses, so much only is the person. Whatever the well-spoken, much-learned one says, those are like the tracks of a jackal.' Therefore, this kind of slandering of everything is not reasonable. Furthermore, which of those elements' own nature becomes the object of your mind, are they not possessed by it? For whom the thick darkness of the mind exists in this very place, how can he understand the next world? For example, when a cataract-afflicted eye sees two moons in the sky that do not exist, other appearances such as hairs and flies are also not real. Similarly, for those elements of earth, etc., which are the cause of all external and internal things, what kind of nature has become the object of your mind, throwing it far away, so that those elements of earth, etc., do not exist with its nature? If only the elements were the cause of consciousness, then external soil, stones, etc., should also have consciousness, and their result, breathing, etc., should also be observed. Therefore, for someone for whom the thick darkness of the unknowing mind exists in the manifestation of the nature of earth, etc., of the things of this world, how can he correctly understand the next world, which is extremely subtle and becomes the sphere of the divine eye?

It transforms, which is impossible. Furthermore, when denying the afterlife, oneself is understood to be viewing the nature of knowable things in a reversed manner. Because one possesses a body that is the same basis as the form of that reversed view, when one acknowledges the existence of the elements, it is just like that time. The standpoint of the Lokayata (materialist) is twofold: the standpoint of understanding the nature of the elements as true, and the standpoint of slandering the afterlife. Among these, when denying and saying that there is no afterlife, the Lokayata himself should be understood as viewing the nature of knowable things in a reversed manner, because he possesses a body of the nature of the elements that is the same basis as the form of that reversed view. When one acknowledges that the nature of the elements truly exists, it is just like viewing the nature of knowable things in a reversed manner at that time. If one thinks that when one acknowledges that the nature of the elements exists, the example is not established because one truly understands the knowable, that is also not the case, because it has already been explained how those elements do not exist. Because, in the preceding, self-origination, other-origination, both-origination, and causeless-origination have been jointly refuted. There is nothing like an element that has not been explained. We have already explained how those elements do not have a true nature. Because in the preceding, the origination of all things from self, other, both, and without cause has been jointly refuted, therefore, there is not even a little bit of an element that has not been explained and is true. Therefore, because the elements do not have self-nature, the example is indeed established. Similarly, when slandering the all-knowing one, and when speaking of things as existing, non-existing, Ishvara (the Lord), time, atoms, and nature, etc., one should apply reversed conceptualizations. For example: when denying the fully enlightened Buddha, oneself should be understood as viewing the nature of knowable things in a reversed manner. Because one possesses a body that is the same basis as the form of that view, when one acknowledges the existence of the elements, it is just like that time. Etc., one should recite and change. One wishes to ultimately refute all views such as existence and non-existence.
