This includes a general refutation of arising from causelessness and a specific refutation of the non-existence of the afterlife. First, the general refutation: The essentialists say, 'If things arise from causes, do they arise from themselves, from others, or from both? We do not accept that things arise from causes, so the faults you mention do not apply to us. Therefore, external and internal things arise from their own nature. For example, no one makes the water of the lotus, the roughness and smoothness of its petals; no one makes the various colors and shapes of its petals, stamens, and heart. Similarly, no one grasps the inner nature of peacocks, sapphires, and swans, and then arranges their various colors and shapes. Therefore, they arise from their own nature.' But this is also unreasonable. If things were to arise solely from causelessness, then all things would always arise from all things. People in the world would not bother to collect seeds, etc., through hundreds of means to obtain fruit. If all external and internal things were to arise without cause, then all fruits and non-fruits would always arise from all causes and non-causes. For example, just as the fruit of the Panasa arises from a non-seed, mangoes, etc., should also arise from non-causes, because they are the same in terms of being non-causes. Similarly, the ripening of mangoes, etc., which depends on the difference of time, should also exist forever, because they do not depend on time. In that case, all beings would arise in all times and places, but that is not possible. This not only contradicts reason but also contradicts what is seen. If things arise solely from causelessness, then people in the world would not take the trouble to collect various seeds, etc., through hundreds of means to obtain fruits and grains."

If even effort is ineffective, then, precisely because there is effect, the arising of phenomena does not arise from inherent nature. Furthermore, if beings were devoid of causes, like the scent of a utpala (藏文,梵文天城体,utpala,梵文罗马拟音,utpala,汉语字面意思:青莲花) in the sky, it would be impossible to grasp. Precisely because one can grasp the extremely bright world, know that the world arises from causes according to one's own mind. If beings were devoid of causes, just as the scent and color of a utpala (藏文,梵文天城体,utpala,梵文罗马拟音,utpala,汉语字面意思:青莲花) in the sky cannot be seen, so too would one's own object-possessing consciousness be unable to grasp them. Therefore, these outer and inner worlds are also apprehended by their respective object-possessing consciousnesses. Just as the minds that perceive blue and so forth from afar do not arise without blue and so forth, and just as they arise from those, so too should you know that these outer and inner worlds arise from their respective causes. Second, specifically refuting the view that there is no other world: Those who assert that the elements are the cause say: "The cause of mind and what arises from mind, which are transformed from the elements, is clearly seen, and therefore cannot be denied, because it is seen, and because one would incur the faults as previously stated. Therefore, there are four causes that produce all outer and inner phenomena: earth, water, fire, and wind. From the distinctions of their complete ripening, not only are the various colors and shapes of lotuses and cotton, and peacocks and wild ducks, merely the elements, but also those that completely distinguish the various objects of consciousness arise from them. For example, just as the ability to intoxicate beings arises from the complete ripening of the distinctions of the elements mixed with alcohol and medicine, so too does consciousness arise from the complete ripening of the distinctions of the elements such as semen and the viscousness of blood, and they even completely distinguish all phenomena. Therefore, outer and inner phenomena arise solely from the cause of the four elements, and the ripening of the results of actions, whether virtuous or non-virtuous,
