Like a seed, can the sprout not be grasped? Or like that, can that also be grasped? Therefore, it is not admitted that those are one. If, in this case of wanting self-origination, the seed and the sprout are not other, then, in the case of the sprout, just as the self-nature of the seed cannot be grasped, can the self-nature of the sprout also not be grasped? Or, just as the self-nature of the sprout is grasped, can the self-nature of the seed also be grasped? Because the seed and the sprout are one, and on one, grasping and not grasping are contradictory. Therefore, wanting to avoid the faults mentioned above, it is not admitted that the seed and the sprout are one. Second, refuting self-origination in name: Because even when the cause is destroyed, the result is seen, so those are one, even worldly people do not admit. Because even when the cause called seed is destroyed and has disappeared, the result called sprout is seen, so the seed and the sprout are one, even worldly people do not admit, if those are one, then like the sprout, the seed should also be seen. Therefore, this inference that things arise from themselves is not reasonable in either the ultimate truth or the conventional truth. Because in either way, self-origination contradicts reason, therefore, this inference by others that things arise from themselves is not reasonable in either the ultimate truth of reality or the conventional truth of the world. Second, the conclusion of the refutation is: If you want self-origination, then the object to be produced and the producer, and the action and the agent, if they become one, then those are not one, therefore, it should not be admitted that things arise from themselves, because it will fall into the fault of extensive explanation. If it is thought that things arise from themselves, then the object to be produced and the producer, and the action and the agent also become one, then those are not one, because father and son, and the eye and the consciousness of the eye, will also become one. Therefore, it should not be admitted that things arise from themselves, because it will fall into the fault of extensive explanation mentioned above. Refutation of other-origination. Two

Regarding the refutation of other-origination, there are two aspects: the actual refutation and, secondarily, the refutation of the Mind-Only school's system. The first aspect is further divided into stating the previous proponent's view and refuting it. The first is: Our own schools say that what is stated here, that things do not arise from themselves, is indeed reasonable. To say, in this way, that they also do not arise from others is unreasonable. This is because the four conditions that transform things, namely, the causal condition, the immediately preceding condition, the objective condition, and the dominant condition, are what produce things. This should be acknowledged based on the scriptures. Among the six causes, the efficient cause is abandoned, and the other five are the causal condition. The objects of the six consciousnesses are the objective condition. Except for the final mind and mental factors of an Arhat, the remaining minds and mental factors are the immediately preceding condition. The efficient cause is the dominant condition. So they say. Others say that whatever has the characteristic of "being the producer," that is, whatever exists as the seed-like nature that produces something, is its causal condition. Just as an old man rises by relying on a cane, the objects upon which minds and mental factors rely when they arise from causes are the objective condition. The cause that ceases immediately before the arising of the result is the immediately preceding condition. Whatever arises when something exists is the dominant condition. Any conditions that arise simultaneously, as well as those that arise later, are included here. Ishvara and so on are not conditions, therefore a fifth condition does not exist. So they say. What the Tathagata said about the four conditions in the Abhidharma and so on is merely conventional and not ultimately true. The schools separately establish four substantially existent conditions, but this is not what the Tathagata taught, because it contradicts reason and scripture. Therefore, the four conditions posited by others should be refuted in both truths. On this, the teacher has already refuted the individual characteristics of the four conditions in the Root Wisdom, so here only a general refutation is shown, and no separate refutations are made. Second, refuting it is divided into refuting it in both truths, and on the basis of the refutation...
