Did Asanga, Vasubandhu, Dignāga, Dharmapāla, and other authors of treatises abandon this Madhyamaka treatise that unerringly explains the profound dependent arising, fearing it upon merely hearing its words? One might say so. How is this to be understood? It has already been explained that this profound and frightening truth is definitely realized by individuals through their prior habituation. Although one may have extensive learning, others will not comprehend it. Therefore, upon seeing those who fabricate doctrines with their own intellect and claim them as their own, one should abandon fondness for other systems and cherish this one, just as one abandons the scriptures of tirthikas. As previously explained, that very reality, the profound dependent arising, causes those without merit to tremble and their hair to stand on end upon merely hearing it. As stated in the Śatāvatāra: "Even from the name of this Dharma, non-virtuous ones generate fear. Who has the power not to instill fear in others?" As it is said. Therefore, this frightening truth is definitely realized by individuals who possess the seed of prior habituation with emptiness, through the power of their habituation. Although one may have extensive learning, other teachers who lack the seed of special devotion to emptiness will not comprehend it. Therefore, those who desire liberation should abandon fondness for the systems of other proponents, those that differ from Nāgārjuna's system. How so? Just as those who desire liberation should abandon the scriptures of the tirthikas who assert a self. Why? Because those doctrines are merely fabricated by the teachers of each system who assert entities, and they are completely contrary to the intention of the Sugata. Third, explaining from the perspective of dedicating the virtue one has accumulated to enlightenment: From proclaiming the excellent system of Nāgārjuna, may whatever merit I have obtained, which pervades all directions and is as difficult to find as the sky stained by afflictions, or as rare as the stars in autumn, or like a jewel on the hood of a mental serpent, may all beings in the world realize that truth and quickly attain Sugatahood.

May I proceed! Through whatever merit I, Chandrakirti, have gained from expounding the excellent system of the master Nagarjuna, the truth of reality, without any perversion, may all beings dwelling in samsara quickly attain the unperverted truth of the two truths and proceed to the state of the Sugata. What kind of merit is it? It is like the immaculate stars of a mid-autumn night in the sky of the mind, which pervades all directions without exception and is unobstructed, and whose color is extremely blue and suppressed by afflictions such as desire, or like a precious jewel on the neck of a snake of the mind entwined with the poison of afflictions and concepts. All the treatises have been explained. In the lands of India, Nepal, and Tibet, many scholars have appeared who speak of the meaning of the sutras, but most are merely skilled in the meaning fabricated by concepts, and are not the actual meaning. In the teaching of the Sage, the noble Nagarjuna is the one who speaks without error according to his own intention. The glorious Chandrakirti is the one who opens up his profound view, like a garden of pure white lotuses. Although many who claim to be scholars say, "The intention of those teachers is this," who knows what is true? How can a blind person distinguish the clear patterns of a colorful painting? Like a blind person groping for a treasure mine, although I do not have the pure eye of the noble ones, through the blessings of the Buddhas and their sons, I have found this profound path of dependent origination. This is the path that pleases the Buddhas and their sons of the past, future, and present. If someone says that there is another path to liberation other than this, I know that they are wrong. May the Buddhas and their sons who dwell in the ten directions appear manifestly and proclaim with one voice that there is another path to liberation other than this, but my mind will not waver, friends! Therefore, those who wish to abandon the path of suffering and enter the path that pleases the Sugata should study this excellent system of Nagarjuna with hundreds of hardships and efforts. If you do not understand this, even if you learn many doctrines, there is no other way to understand the intention of the Sugata. Most of them only spread the web of concepts, and only gain the exhaustion of intelligence.
