It is the characteristic of a pot, and the pot is the signified of those, therefore it is the basis. Therefore, even from characteristics such as number, the essence of the pot as a basis is not established anywhere, because it is not seen. If the essence of the basis is found, then this is the signified of numbers, etc., and these numbers, etc., are its characteristics, so it will definitely be different from numbers, etc. On something that is not established as a basis, the entity of the pot is not different from numbers, etc., because it does not exist. Second, refuting one's own school: In whatever proponent's system, the pot and form, etc., are one, which is an established conclusion, that system is also unreasonable. Because the eight substances, such as form, etc., which have various characteristics, are not separate but one, it follows that the pot is not one but many. If it is said that the pot becomes many, since the pot is not seen in each substance such as form, etc., it does not follow that the pot becomes many. If it is said that the characteristic entities such as form, etc., combine with each other, the pot becomes one, because it is apprehended by the body's sense faculty, so only touch is associated with tactile sensation. Therefore, the tactile sensation that possesses touch combines with things that do not possess touch, such as form, smell, etc., that is, meeting and touching do not exist, just like space and a pot. For what reason is it like that? Therefore, the combination of form, etc., with each other is unreasonable in any way, so it is unreasonable to say that the collection of those that touch each other is a pot. If they do not touch each other, and their collection is a pot, then the pot has parts, and form, etc., are parts. Form is a part of the pot, therefore form is not the pot. Smell, etc., are also the same. If form, etc., are parts, then isn't there some whole that exists? A part that does not depend on a whole is also unreasonable, because there is no pot on form, etc., so there is no such thing as a whole. Because there is no whole, form, etc., are also not parts. From this, it can also be seen that form, etc.

The collection of is not a vase. Like this, the form of smell, taste, etc., contained by the aggregate of form, also has cloths, etc., like a vase. For all forms that have vases and cloths, etc., the characteristic of form is only that it can become form, which is not inconsistent, because the essence is the same in all things. Therefore, one form will have the characteristic of a vase, so what reason is there that it is different from other forms related to cloths, etc.? Therefore, it also exists in the vase itself, because the form and characteristics that exist in the vase are not different. Just as the vase is not different from the eight, such as form, etc., so also smell, etc., should become non-different, because the vase is not one and not other. If you say that even though it is not different from the vase, the form has different tastes, etc., so they will not become non-different, because they are objects to be grasped by different sense faculties. If you think that from form, etc., form is different, but from the vase, form is not different. Then, if the vase also becomes different from form, because without those tastes, etc., which are different from form, the vase cannot establish its own essence. Since that vase is not different from taste, etc., how can it not be different from form? It must be different. If you say that because the collection of form, etc., is called a vase, even though form, etc., are many, it will not lead to the vase being many. Even if form, smell, etc., merge and gather together, will form become smell? Or will smell become form? This is unreasonable, because those who exist in the collection do not abandon their own characteristics. Because form, smell, etc., do not become one nature even when they gather together, it is said: "Nature and individual, Not one, therefore the vase is not one." As it is said, nature and individual are not one, therefore the collection should not be one either. Although this verse will appear below in the root text, it is quoted and explained above due to the connection of meaning. When it is impossible for form, etc., to be the cause for applying the name of a vase, other things cannot be the cause either, so there is no cause for applying a name to the vase, no cause.
