None. Fourth, comparing the reasoning that refutes the four extremes is the way to refute those who say there is a result, say there is no result, say there is both a result and no result, and say there is neither a result nor no result. Like "Whoever desires a result," etc., what was said before, wise people like Good Intelligence, etc., should always apply refutations to those who say that cause and effect are one, and others such as saying they are different entities, are both, or are neither. Thus, saying that cause and effect are the same is the side that says there is a result, to which: such as "Whoever desires a result, for the sake of a house, pillars, etc., the purpose of decoration will also not exist." And "Whatever causes to arise, it is not reasonable to call it pre-existing. If what exists is born, then what has already been born will also arise again." etc. should be applied. Thinking that cause and effect are different is the side that says there is no result, to which: such as "Whoever desires no result, for the sake of a house, pillars, etc., the purpose of decoration will also not exist." should be applied. Some people think that Indra previously existed in the nature of life, so when he takes a body now, because he previously existed in the nature of life, and because the nature of generosity does not exist, cause and effect are one. Also, thinking "it is also," is the side that thinks the result is both existent and nonexistent. To this, the refutations spoken to those who say there is a result and no result should both be stated to the same opponent. Regarding the case of thinking it is neither, if the result has both existence and nonexistence, it becomes neither by way of negating it, then when existence and nonexistence have not been established, by negating what does it become neither? It should be done in this way. Second, revealing the cause of mistaking things as real: If things are thus without inherent existence, then what reason do the proponents of things in self and other schools rejoice in, and think that things exist? To this, although there is no reason, however, just as a lamp perishes in an instant, as long as the collection of causes and conditions exists, the cause and effect before and after the instant arise continuously, so too, conditioned things perish in an instant, the collection of causes and conditions

When there is aggregation, moments arise continuously one after another. Because its own nature is not fully understood, erroneous views arise. Non-Buddhist sages remember their former abodes. Similarly, because they do not directly see the destruction of conditioned phenomena in an instant, they think that the self or the world is permanent. Similarly, arising in dependence on this and that collection of causes and conditions, arising and transforming from arising, mind and arising from mind, characteristics and the basis of characteristics, houses and vases, etc., like images and echoes, etc., taking the inversions of the world as valid measures from this and that, approaching or relying on them in order to guide the world, they merely posit the characteristics of self and generality. Those also, at the time of arising, only the aggregates arise, and at the time of cessation, only the aggregates cease. Even so, because the nature of that aggregate is not fully understood and erroneous views arise, debaters, without reason, relying solely on inversions, think that internal and external things are truly existent. Third, summarizing and showing the reasoning of non-existence. If it is said that our view of things is inverted, then since you do not accept things, you will become one who views things as non-existent. But that is very unreasonable, because seeing and not seeing are contradictory. If you say so, we are not saying that things do not exist, but rather that we speak of dependent origination. What is the meaning of dependent origination? It is the meaning of no self-nature, like illusion, mirage, image, etc., it is the meaning of emptiness and selflessness. Like this, whatever is established by its own nature does not depend on others, so it is not dependent origination. All conditioned phenomena arise in dependence. Thus, whatever thing exists in dependence is not independent, because it arises in dependence on causes and conditions. All these things are without independence. Therefore, there is no self-nature in any thing. Therefore, dependent origination is the meaning of being devoid of self-nature, it is the meaning of emptiness, not that all things are non-existent.

That is not the meaning. Therefore, to engage in the manner of superimposing and denigrating on dependent arising which is like an illusion, to view things as either existent or nonexistent is reversed. But for those who accept dependent arising as being like an illusion, there is no opportunity for the faults of permanence and annihilation. Fourthly, showing the necessity of realizing emptiness: Because nothing whatsoever is born by its own nature, therefore, without a result, it is impossible for all internal and external things to gather. That which is established by its own nature is permanent and does not depend on a result. That which gathers for the sake of a result is not gathered for the noble ones who see its own nature, that is, they do not consider it to be true. Therefore, the seed of sentient beings is the ignorance of afflictions, which is the consciousness that clings to the appearance of things as real. Forms and other objects are its objects of experience. As previously stated, by seeing that objects do not have a self-nature, the seed of craving, the afflicted consciousness, will cease. The Hearers, Solitary Realizers, and Bodhisattvas who have obtained forbearance of the unborn Dharma are established as turning away from samsara. The seed from which the wisdom of the Buddhas arises, the mind of enlightenment, is the opposite of that. In all beings, the wisdom of the Tathāgata will undoubtedly arise.
