Secondly, just as the future does not exist, because there is no future, the past is also impossible because the past has no past. For example, has the past time transcended its own past essence, or has it not? If it has transcended the past, then why would it still be the past? Because it has already transcended its own past essence. For example, we do not call yogurt, which has transcended the state of milk, milk. If it has not transcended the past and is not devoid of function, then why would something with function become the past? If it is said that the past has not transcended the past because it remains in its own past essence, then if the past is established and remains in its essence, then it becomes the past. This is a case of analysis, so it is not established. How can it remain in the self-nature of the past? Thirdly, refuting the arising of the future as substantially existent, refuting the non-existence of the future as a thing, and refuting the three views on whether the result exists or not. First, those of the Vaibhashika school, because they believe that the three times exist as substances, praise the Sarvastivadins. According to their view, one should contemplate whether the future that exists has arisen or not? If one thinks that the future that exists has arisen, then why would it not become the present? Because it has arisen and exists, like the present pot. If one thinks that the future that exists has not arisen, then will the future become permanent? Or will it only become permanent, because it has not arisen and exists, like the Nirvana you desire. If it is said that although the future has not arisen, it is not impermanent like the unconditioned, but is led to the state of the present by the power of causes and conditions, then the future will be impermanent because it perishes. If it is said that it is impermanent because there is decay of its own nature, then the past does not have destruction and decay of its own nature, so why can't it be inferred that it is permanent? Therefore, it will become the fault of being permanent. Furthermore, if it is said that time is called such because impermanence itself devours, then impermanence does not exist in all three times. For example, neither the past nor the present can become impermanent, because the present remains in its own essence without decaying, and impermanence is related to things that do not exist, so it cannot become the present. The past is

How should it be done? What has already perished should not perish again, because it is unnecessary, because there is no basis, and because it would lead to the fault of being endless. The past and the present, and the third form different from these, the future, cannot have impermanence, because impermanence is the basis for the arising of things. The future does not exist for things that have not arisen. Therefore, just as it is unreasonable to distinguish the three times for things like space that are separate from impermanence, similarly, for those who claim that things have inherent existence, because there is no impermanence, time is also unreasonable. If it is said that the future exists, because if there are causes and conditions, it will arise later. Things that did not exist before, such as the son of a barren woman, will not arise later. If it is said that any external or internal thing that arises later from causes and conditions exists by its own nature before it arises, then things do not depend on causes, but are established separately by their own nature, and therefore it is a claim of the Tirthikas (non-Buddhists). If it is said that things are established by their own nature without causes, it will not become a sectarian view of the Tirthikas. Then, that statement is inverted, because it contradicts all visible and invisible aspects. Like this, if things do not depend on causes, there is no dependent origination, and therefore, like a donkey's horn, it will not become a visible path, etc., there is such a fault. From this perspective, existing things should not arise. Like this, any result that arises from causes and conditions, that is, is produced, should not be said to exist before it arises. If existing things arise, then things that have already arisen will also arise again. This is also unreasonable, because it is unnecessary, and because the cause itself will continue to arise until the end, therefore it will lead to the fault that the continuity of the result cannot continue. If it is said that the future exists, because the wisdom obtained by a yogi from meditation can truly understand the nature of things and make predictions. Then, it has already been shown that the future does not exist before it arises. Therefore, if a yogi can truly see the nature of future things, why can't they directly see non-existent things, such as the son of a barren woman? Because both are the same in having no inherent existence, it is unreasonable to see one but not the other.
