What is the nature of how to practice? In this way, one should follow and understand the minds of sentient beings through the pure signs as stated. Secondly, if we talk about the nature of those who practice desire and so on, what are the methods for taming them? The Buddhas said that for those with desire, one should generate desire for things like food, Dharma robes, temples, etc., that are free from desire, as well as for things that are inferior, disagreeable, and abandoning all that is good. Thus, for those with desire, to counteract attachment to places, it is taught to stay in quiet places, under trees, in charnel grounds, and in places without shelter. To counteract attachment to bedding, it is taught to be a sitter and to abide as is. To counteract attachment to food, it is taught to beg for alms, to eat in one sitting, and not to take food later. To counteract attachment to clothing, it is taught to wear three Dharma robes, robes made of rags, and felt robes. Thus, to counteract the attachment of those with desire to temples and so on, twelve qualities of practice are established. Even Arhats rely on these in order to prevent those who are interested in their own evil deeds. Therefore, first, through these (qualities), he will tend towards Nirvana. One who has desire should always stay in front of the teacher, and through the teacher's constant exhortation, this person's desire will be tamed. Even if struck by inappropriate attention, because he has weak armor, he will not cross the boundary of the training. One who practices hatred, on the contrary, is a splendid temple and a quiet place. For those who practice delusion, it is mixed. Secondly, there are three ways to abandon hatred in detail: the faults of hatred, the antidote to abandonment, and the benefits of patience. First, one who wants to abandon hatred should understand the faults of hatred. Thus, if hatred arises towards one who has no ability to harm others, it will turn the face black and wrinkle the brow, only making oneself ugly, and because there is no ability, it will not harm others. If hatred arises without compassion towards one who has the ability to harm others, it is the cause of all harm, such as taking the lives of others, so it is called inferior. Second, if one hears harsh words and becomes angry

To be angry is extremely foolish. For example, hearing unpleasant sounds now is the result of one's own past actions that caused such experiences. Hearing abuse is the manifestation of karmic results, which can eliminate sins. Isn't that what is said? Not understanding this principle is ignorance, not saintliness. Being angry at the abuser not only means not wanting to purify one's past karma but also allowing oneself to be stained again by the dirt of sin, which is extremely foolish. Therefore, one should not be angry at harsh words. Because the nature of harshness, though unpleasant to hear, does not inherently cause harm. If it did, the speaker would also be harmed. Therefore, the thought that "this person is slandering me" leads to the harm of anger, and to think that this harm comes from the speaker is purely presumptuous. Therefore, since the harm is caused by one's own thoughts, why be angry at others? If it is said that abuse is a fault, because secular law states that abusers should be punished, then it is reasonable to be angry at them. If secular law explicitly states that abusers should be punished because hurtful words injure the heart, then why not also say that those who speak sweetly should be honored for capturing the hearts of others with sweet words? Therefore, because of its partiality, secular law is not reliable. If it is said that abuse reveals one's own faults to others, so one should be angry, even if the abuser does not mention physical defects such as lameness or limping. If others know about these faults, one should not be angry at the one who speaks of them because they are speaking the truth. How much more so should one not be angry at an abuser who speaks falsely about non-existent faults, because they are at fault for speaking untruthfully. Therefore, in all circumstances, one should not be angry. If one says, how can one not be angry when hearing unpleasant words from a lowly person? Lowly people always commit sins and particularly enjoy seeing others suffer. Merely hearing unpleasant words from them will inevitably lead to anger, which is unavoidable, such as beatings, etc.
