Who would take a scholar of attached words as a standard? Like this, those with attachment, in their youth, experience the suffering of indulging in their desires, and even if that is not being free from attachment, in old age, merely remembering it becomes unwanted and causes aversion. So, how could the liberated Arhats not utterly despise the act of desire and not feel suffering? They certainly would feel suffering. The second point is: If it is said that the pleasure of women is the supreme pleasure in the desire realm, and its cause is women, therefore one should completely possess women, then the pleasure of desire is not truly pleasure, because it is merely fabricated as pleasure by a reversed mind. Like this, those without attachment have no pleasure in encountering women, and those with attachment also cling to objects that are not truly desirable. This situation does not occur to those who are not ignorant of the nature of things. A foolish person, whose mind always turns away from the nature of things, how can such a person recognize true pleasure? Apart from reversed thoughts, no pleasure can be recognized at all. Furthermore, even if one completely possesses women for the sake of enjoyment, it should be done in a way that does not cause jealousy towards other men. If one says, "This woman is mine, not someone else's," and completely possesses her, even when one is not enjoying her, and is jealous of other men, what is the reason for this? You who are attached, always respect and cling to women for the sake of enjoyment, but you do not have the power to always be with her. Like this, those with attachment also become weary from brief enjoyment and abandon women as if they were free from attachment. If it is said that desire is considered pleasure in the world, and it cannot arise without women, therefore one should rely on women for the sake of pleasure, then desire is not pleasure, because one relies on women to destroy it. If desire were the pleasure of its own nature, then there would be no need to rely on women to destroy it. Because it has never been seen that one should abandon pleasure. If it is said that with women

If someone says that because happiness arises from momentary union, other happiness is born from women. If union with a woman is the cause of happiness, then all those with and without desire should experience the happiness of desire without distinction, but that is not the case. Even if one has not abandoned desire, if a woman forcibly unites with those who respect discipline, happiness will not arise, and the mind will be distressed. Therefore, even when a man and a woman unite, that happiness arises from the union of the two faculties and from the non-virtuous thoughts that arise from it. If one says that the cause of this is solely relying on a lover, which wise person other than a fool would accept this? Only a fool would accept it. If desire is so strongly condemned, why do those with desire engage in it again and again? Therefore, is desire happiness? Those with desire do not engage in desire because it is the nature of happiness, but because the poison of desire has blinded the eye of wisdom, and they do not see the faults of desire. For example, a leper afflicted with severe itching does not see the harm of scratching the itch, such as burning like fire, skinning, bleeding, and oozing pus, and yet scratches again and again, unable to stop. Therefore, to the noble ones and those without desire who are free from the itch of desire, those with desire appear only as lepers afflicted with severe itching, full of suffering, and not as those with happiness. If desire is impure, but those with desire wish to engage in it closely, even if they endure insults such as being kicked in the head and spat upon when meeting a woman, is the flattery of body and speech, such as praising her afterwards, happiness? For example, to those who are helpless, suffering from hunger and thirst, and impoverished, they show extreme bodily and verbal flattery to the wealthy who possess grain. Even if they are insulted hundreds of times by the merciless rich, they still think that these people might give us something later, and so they accept the insults, showing bodily and verbal flattery and desire.
