Just as some people, using substitutes for noses, merely mix some images and consider themselves complete in limbs and become happy. Those children who are by nature greedy for desires, when they do not see the nature of the body, become attached to flowers and fragrances, etc., which are external adornments of impurity, and through them they think that their own and others' bodies are clean and desire them. If it is said that flowers and fragrances, etc., will necessarily become the cause of desire, because they generate desire in people, then the bodies in which the noble Arhats arise, free from desire, should not be called naturally pure, because natural purity should not be the cause of generating aversion. Indeed, things that by nature become the cause of desire do not exist anywhere, because flowers, etc., which are considered clean, also become repulsive when they decay, and some yogis also see that they are free from attachment to them. Therefore, it should be known that whatever generates detachment from desire is impure. The second point is: Thus, the body is impure, just as impermanence and suffering have already been spoken of, and next, the absence of self will be explained, these are the four non-perverted views. Can these four exist in one thing or not? If not, then whatever is compounded and arises dependently is impermanent, because it is momentary. Whatever is impermanent is impure, because it generates aversion. Whatever is impure is suffering, because it causes harm. Whatever is suffering is also without self, because it is not autonomous. Therefore, in short, these four perversions can exist in one contaminated thing. Even if these exist, the perverted children will not completely cut them off, but will have a completely opposite understanding of things. Therefore, the wise should realize the impermanence, etc., of things as they are, and thus make the mind properly engage in the realization of no-self. In the Four Hundred Verses on the Practice of Yoga, the method of preventing the clinging to purity is shown, which is the third chapter.
