Refutation of Transformation: If you have negated both things and non-things, then, because things are eliminated, all things will become non-existent for you. If all things are negated and become non-existent, so that they turn into the side of non-things, then all aspects of the Madhyamikas should not be non-things, like this: When, in the manner described above, things themselves do not exist, because there is no thing to be negated, the non-thing that negates it will also not exist. Why is that? In the world, it is said that the destruction of a thing, its transformation into another state, is a non-thing. At that time, if the basis of dependence, the thing, does not exist, then how can the dependent, the non-thing, be established? Therefore, things and non-things are mutually dependent and are not established by their own nature. Fifth, refuting the example and reason for establishing emptiness: If nothing is established without a cause, then you must inevitably show the reason for establishing emptiness, and emptiness is established by reason, therefore everything will not be empty, because there is also reason. In order to establish emptiness, you say that there is a cause of arising or a cause of knowing. If it is the former, then emptiness becomes something made, therefore it will be deceptive like an illusion. But emptiness is the nature of being always the same, so it is not deceptive either. Therefore, it is not a cause of arising. If you consider the cause of knowing and say that there is a cause for establishing emptiness, then the reason is stated in order to establish the proposition. If the reason is different from the proposition, then because it is not a property of the subject, it cannot make the proposition understood. If the reason is not different from the proposition, then like the nature of the proposition itself, this is not a reason, therefore there is no reason for establishing emptiness, so the absence of inherent existence of things is established. If even without a reason, because there is an example of emptiness, there are also other things like the example, therefore everything will not be empty. If the example is examined, is it related to the meaning of the reason? Or not

It is considered a kind of connection. If, as in the first case, the refutation of logic itself eliminates it. If it is thought that the purpose can be achieved merely through examples unrelated to logic, then in that case, just as the blackness of a crow, could I also say that I am black? This is also impossible, so this example is inappropriate because it is unnecessary. Sixth, explaining the necessity of teaching emptiness: If there is neither logic nor example, and all things do not exist, then for what purpose is your effort in composing this treatise? The approach to emptiness in this treatise is for the sake of seeing Suchness, and Suchness is also self-nature and essence. If things truly exist by their own nature, then it is wonderful for those seeking liberation to see it, but what merit is there in seeing emptiness? Not only is there no merit, but it becomes a fault because it involves engaging in slander. When things are inherently non-existent, worldly people cling to them as having self-nature, and therefore, due to the cause of this clinging, they enter into samsara under the influence of karma and afflictions. At that time, this treatise clarifies that things are inherently non-existent, thereby abandoning all fabrications and slanders, and proclaiming non-self-nature. The world also recognizes that things are inherently non-existent, and like images and illusions, no longer clings to things. Therefore, the cause of clinging, which is all karma and afflictions, will be exhausted, and one will surely be liberated from all bonds such as desire. Therefore, this treatise merely reveals that things are without self-nature, but here, it is not denying dependent arising as being like an illusion. So, what do these many forms of reasoning prevent? Due to untrue fabrications, children see things as having self-nature, and therefore are bound in samsara. Therefore, the clinging that is the cause of the suffering of samsara is what is to be refuted in this treatise by the many collections of reasoning. Thus, dependent arising, which is empty in essence and like an illusion, is, in short, the teaching of the Buddha.

It is said that this is the reason, and the master has explained it in detail with this treatise. Seventh, revealing that clinging to existence or non-existence is wrong: Some people in their own sects, such as the Yogacara, do not understand the meaning of the scriptures as they are, and think that some things, such as consciousness, exist, while others, such as external bottles, do not exist. This is neither the ultimate truth nor the conventional truth. Because when one wants to explain worldly things, one should take worldly knowledge as the standard and admit all five aggregates; when one wants to explain the transcendental reality, one should rely on the wisdom of the saints and explain that all five aggregates are empty in nature. Because of this, it cannot be said that this consciousness exists and that external object does not exist. In the conventional sense, just like the mind and mental factors, external objects such as bottles also exist, because this is recognized throughout the world. In the ultimate sense, just as bottles and other things cannot be established after analysis, the mind and mental factors will also become non-existent, because they are contrary to reason. Eighth, revealing that impartial reasoning cannot refute: Since this is the case, since the assertion of existence has been refuted by many lines of reasoning, it is impossible to refute the assertion of emptiness. If someone says: Although I cannot answer you now, in the future there will be people who are diligent in the teachings of the Tathagata who will answer you. If there is a completely clinging sect, then through other methods of argumentation, it may be possible to refute it after a long time. However, for anyone who does not have any of the three views of "existence", "non-existence" and "both existence and non-existence", it is impossible to raise objections even after a long time, just as it is impossible to draw pictures in the sky or whip the sky. The sixteenth chapter of the Four Hundred Verses on the Practice of Yoga, entitled "Revealing the Determination of the Teacher and the Disciple," is completed. The holy and wonderful treatise, the treasure of good sayings, by whose power it appears in this snow mountain, like the moon.
