In order to see things as they truly are, one does not cling to viewing things that exist in other ways with various views. There are eight views that aim at the future extreme and intervene in other ways: that the future will arise, and that it will not arise, that the world has an end, etc. Those who hold these views rely on the future extreme. Will I arise at some time in the future? Or will I not arise? Will I both arise and not arise? Will I neither arise nor not arise? These four views rely on the future extreme. Similarly, the view that the world has an end, and so on, that it does not have an end, that it both has and does not have an end, that it neither has nor does not have an end. Those who hold these four views rely on the future extreme. Therefore, the four views that consider having an end, etc., generally intervene based on the future extreme. And the four views that consider "Will I arise at some time in the future?" etc., intervene based solely on the future extreme of the self. This is the difference between these two sets of four views. Second, the detailed explanation. It is divided into two types: refutation in terms of conventional truth and refutation in terms of ultimate truth. The first type is further divided into three types: refuting attachment to the past extreme, refuting attachment to the future extreme, and refuting other attachments to the past and future extremes. The first type has three parts. The first is refuting the self's existence in the past. It is divided into establishing the proposition and explaining the proof. The first part is: 'It will have arisen in the past,' this is not reasonable. What arose in previous lives is not this. Saying that the self will have arisen in the past is not reasonable. If what arose in previous lives is the same as what exists now, then what arose in previous lives is not this now, because it would become permanent, and permanence is impossible in samsara. The second is: refuting that the past and future self are one, refuting the closely appropriated self, refuting the self that is not closely appropriated, and concluding the refutation, in four parts. The first part is: If

If it is said, "This is that," and it is thought that the past and the present are the same, what fault would there be? Answer: It would become permanent, and that fault has already been stated. There is another fault as well. If you think, "That itself is the self," then the aggregates will become different. If you think that the past "that" becomes this present self, then if the aggregates of the past and present are not different, the aggregates of the nature of the five aggregates of the past and present will become different, because the causes of the aggregates are different, and the times are different. Therefore, the past self is not the present self. If the aggregates are different, but the self is the same, therefore, is the self something that existed in the past? If you ask this, what is your self other than the aggregates? If the aggregates are other and the self is also other, then although the aggregates are different, the self is the same. If you think this is reasonable, but what is your self other than the aggregates of the nature of the five aggregates? The self and the aggregates cannot be shown to be different, because the aggregates themselves are different, so there is no need to rely on it. Because the self will become without cause, and it will become something that can be grasped separately. Therefore, it is unreasonable to say that although the aggregates are different, the self is the same. The second case is, if there is no self that is different from the aggregates, but the aggregates themselves are the self, that is also unreasonable. If it is said that there is no self other than the aggregates, and the aggregates themselves are the self, then your self will not exist, because the aggregates cannot be the self. Like this: The aggregates themselves are not the self, because they arise and cease. How can the aggregates become the taker? The aggregates of the nature of the five aggregates themselves are not the self, because the aggregates arise and cease in every moment, and the self cannot be like that. The self is "this" and "other," and so on.
