Like an image, if self-nature is not established, how can one think that the Tathagata proceeds on the path of non-reversal? Furthermore, if the Tathagata has some kind of self-nature, then depending on that self-nature, the self-nature of the skandhas will become the object of others. If one becomes a Tathagata by relying on the object of others, then when the Tathagata does not have self-nature, how can the skandhas become the object of others by relying on it? Therefore, it is declared: If self-nature does not exist, how can other objects exist? When self-nature and other objects do not exist, what is the Tathagata other than self-nature and other objects? If it is a thing, it will become self-nature and other objects, and what is the so-called Tathagata other than these two? Therefore, the Tathagata does not exist by self-nature. The second point is: If the Tathagata exists without relying on the skandhas, then it will initially become dependent, and only after dependence will it become the Tathagata. Just as Shyama, who previously existed independently of wealth, would go to acquire wealth. If the Tathagata did not exist without relying on the skandhas, then it would initially become dependent on the skandhas, and only after relying on the skandhas would it become the Tathagata. If analyzed in every way, ("Without relying on the skandhas, there is no Tathagata." This is the root verse.) If there is no reliance on the skandhas, then there is no Tathagata, because it would become causeless. If it is impossible for something to exist without reliance, then how can it take the skandhas? If the Tathagata does not exist before the skandhas without relying on the skandhas, then how can it take the skandhas? If one does not take at all, then it is unreasonable to become a Tathagata by relying on the skandhas. In this way, if it is not already taken, how can it be taken? When the Tathagata does not exist before taking the skandhas and does not take at all, the skandhas are not taken by anyone, so how can they not be taken? That is to say, it will be taken.

It is called "Unchanging." There is no grasping, and there are no Tathagatas. Because it is not taken by anyone at any time, it will not become grasping. Therefore, since there is no grasping, there is no Tathagata of the grasper. Therefore, if one searches with five aspects, how can one designate that Tathagata who is neither the same nor different with grasping? If one analyzes the Tathagata in the manner described above, it is neither the same nor different from the aggregates. Because it is neither the same nor different, if one searches with the five aspects of mutual dependence and what is depended upon, and the corresponding aspects, how can one designate that Tathagata who is fundamentally non-existent with grasping? Therefore, the Tathagata is also non-existent by nature. Through this analysis, it is not only the Tathagata that is non-existent, but also, whatever is grasped, that is not existent by nature. Whatever is grasped, such as form, feeling, etc., the five aggregates, that is not existent by nature, because it is dependent arising, and it has been extensively refuted in the analysis of the aggregates. If one thinks that even if grasping is not existent by nature, it can arise from other causes and conditions, that is also unreasonable. What does not exist in one's own things, how can one expect it to exist in the things of others? Just as the son of a barren woman does not exist in his own things, he cannot be designated by the things of others. Therefore, there is no grasping. Or, whatever is grasped, that is not existent by nature, because it depends on the grasper, and there is no grasping itself that does not depend on it. If one thinks that even if grasping is not existent by nature, it can be established by depending on the grasper, then, what does not exist in one's own things, how can one expect it to exist in the things of others? Whatever grasping does not exist in one's own things, how can it exist in the things of another, the grasper? Therefore, there is also no grasping. Third, thus grasping and the grasper are empty in all aspects. Thus, analyzing in all ways, grasping and the grasper are empty in all aspects, without inherent existence.
