Therefore, when there is no birth due to emptiness of inherent existence, from what consideration would there be existence or destruction? If karma does not arise from emptiness of inherent existence, what is the meaning of what the Bhagavan said, or rather, what this means is that as long as the path transcending the world has not been attained, the maturation of the results of virtuous or non-virtuous actions that have been done and accumulated will not be wasted, considering that: The actions of sentient beings, even after hundreds of kalpas, will not be wasted. When the time of gathering comes, they will ripen into fruition. What does that mean? Because that is unborn, therefore it will not be wasted. If the essence of karma existed before and then disappeared later, it would become wasted. Because that karma is unborn by its own nature, therefore it will not become wasted with the characteristic of existence disappearing, that is what is being considered. Therefore, that way does not harm me. Karma is without inherent existence, it should be understood without any doubt. Otherwise, if karma had inherent existence, there is no doubt that it would become permanent. Karma would not be created, because the permanent has no function. If karma had inherent existence, then karma would undoubtedly become permanent, because inherent existence does not change. In that case, karma would not be created, because the permanent has no function, because the permanent exists, and existing things have no function of conditions. If karma is not created, then there will be the fear of encountering the uncreated, and abiding in pure conduct will not be, there will also be faults in that aspect. If that karma is not created, then for those who have not created killing and so on, even though that karma has not been created, it exists, so there will also be the fear of encountering the uncreated. Anyone who abides in pure conduct is not, there will also be faults in that aspect, because for those who abide in pure conduct and are completely pure, even if they have not created impure conduct, it still exists. Therefore, no one will be liberated from suffering. Furthermore, all terms will undoubtedly contradict themselves, and the distinction between doing good and doing evil will not be reasonable. Those who plow fields and do business, and so on,

Because all actions done for the sake of results have not been done, the actions become meaningless, and there is no doubt that this will also contradict all worldly sayings, such as "Make a pot," "Take a felt," etc., because all pots, etc., have not been made. The distinction of saying "This is doing good," "This is doing evil" is also unreasonable, because even if good and evil deeds are not done, good and evil already exist. Furthermore: That which has matured, will mature again and again. If self-nature exists, why does karma still need to exist? That karma, even if the maturation has ended, will mature again and again, because just like when the result has not been taken out, its self-nature has not disappeared. Therefore, if you admit that karma has self-nature, then because karma with self-nature still exists, there will be the fault as mentioned above. Therefore, karma has no self-nature, and because there is no self-nature, we will not have the fault of permanence and annihilation. The second statement is: If karma has self-nature, it is because it has a cause. Because non-existent things have no cause, like clothes made of tortoise hair. The cause of karma is afflictions, i.e., actions arising from ignorance, existence arising from grasping. If you say so, that is also unreasonable: This karma itself is affliction, those afflictions are not real. If afflictions are not real, how can karma be real? This karma is the nature of affliction, that is, it has affliction as its cause. Those afflictions are not really existent, because "Whatever is born from suffering and joy, and from perversion, those self-natures are all empty, therefore afflictions are not real." It will be explained like this. Therefore, if afflictions are not real, then how can the karma caused by it be real? Therefore, karma has no self-nature. The third statement is: Karma and afflictions exist, because their result—the body—can be observed. If you say so, that is also unreasonable: Karma and afflictions
