The goer also becomes two. If the action of going becomes two, then the goer also becomes two. Why? Because without a goer, going is not possible. Why is that? Because an action necessarily depends on an agent, therefore without a goer, the action of going is not possible. When Devadatta alone goes on the road, there is no second goer, therefore there is no second action. Secondly, refuting the agent of going, there are two types: general refutation and specific refutation of the goer going. The first is: If it is said that there is going, because there is a goer who is the basis of going, then: If there is no goer, then going is not possible. If there is no going, how can there be a goer? If there is a goer, then there should also be going. If there is no goer, then because of its absence, the going that depends on it is not possible. Why is there no goer? Because the agent depends on the action, as explained before, if there is no action of going, how can there be a goer who is its basis? Therefore, going and the goer are mutually dependent, and if one does not exist, the other cannot be established. If it is said that there is going because its name expresses that which possesses it, then: If there is no going, it is not appropriate to say that Devadatta goes, just as it is not possible to say "one who has a stick" if there is no stick. If it is said that this statement "Devadatta goes" is merely an unexamined convention and not ultimately true, then: Briefly, the goer does not go, the non-goer does not go, and who is the third that goes other than the goer and the non-goer? If it is said that there is going, then does the goer, the non-goer, or someone other than those two go? Briefly, the goer does not go, and this will be explained by the following three verses. The non-goer is one who is separate from the action of going, and if that is called a goer, it is contradictory, therefore the non-goer does not go. When considering who goes, who is the third that goes other than the goer and the non-goer? Because there is no such thing. Therefore, there is no going. Secondly:

If it is not the goer who does not go, nor does anything other than the two go, but only the goer goes, if you say so, when there is no going, the goer is not reasonable, wait a moment, the goer goes, how can it be reasonable? When saying the phrase "the goer goes," the activity of going is one, therefore it is said to go, and when speaking of the goer, there is no second activity of going, therefore, when there is no activity of going, saying the goer is not reasonable, wait a moment, how can this phrase "the goer goes" be completely reasonable? Even if saying "going" is meaningful, the "goer" is empty. If you say that the goer with the activity of going goes, then, on whose side, the goer, that going without the sound of going is wrong, because you want the goer to go. The opponent, on whose side, the goer with the activity of going goes, that going without the sound of going is wrong, because there is no second activity of going, and you want the goer with the activity of going to go. Therefore, in this aspect, saying "goer" is meaningful, but "going" is empty. If both the goer and going want to have the activity of going, if the goer is to go, then going becomes two, by what is it manifested as the goer, and what is gone after becoming the goer. If both the goer and going have the activity of going, then going becomes two, the activity of going by which it is manifested as the goer is one, and what is gone after becoming the goer is the second activity. Third, refuting the proof of the existence of going, divided into refuting the proof of the existence of fabrication, refuting the proof of the existence of antidote, and refuting the proof of the existence of contradiction. First, if you say there is going, because there is fabrication of going, if you say so, there is no fabrication of going in the place that has been gone, there is no fabrication of going in the place that has not been gone, there is fabrication when starting to go.
