That is so. Second, the necessity of vowing to compose a treatise is: the noble ones, even when faced with the danger of life, will not abandon the burden of their vows, therefore, the composition will eventually be completed. Second, the summarized content is: vowing to explain and stating offerings. The former of the two is further divided into: what to explain? In what way to explain? Who explains? The first of the three is: explaining the glorious King of Tantras, which is the assembly of all Buddhas. What kind of Tantra is it? It has three characteristics: the characteristic of the explainer, explained by the four tantras; the characteristic of the expression, bound by the six limits; the characteristic of the content, expanded by the two stages. The first is: the Yoga Tantra explains very clearly, distinctly, and well. The second is: bound by the six limits, binding the realm of the prince. The third is: all Buddhas expand through the places of the two stages. In what way is it explained? It is said to be obtained from Nāgārjuna, and it is sequential. Who explains it? It is said to be explained by Candrakīrti. The second is the statement of offering: summarized in the all-pervading glorious Vajrasattva. Third, the meaning of the words is: explain, thus guiding. Where to explain? In the glorious King of Tantras. Because it possesses the glory of the two accumulations, glorious refers to Vajradhara, and the tantra it expounds is also called glorious. There are two types of tantras: the tantra of the content to be expressed and the tantra of the expressing sound. The former is further divided into three: the tantra of the cause, the tantra of the method, and the tantra of the result. The first is: the mind of enlightenment existing in the continuum of sentient beings, Samantabhadra, naturally pure, without the duality of grasper and grasped, only the experience of clear awareness, with temporary stains. This is both the cause and the continuum, so it is called the tantra of the cause. Why is it the cause? Because it is driven by afflictions and conceptual thoughts, it becomes the cause of samsara; and because it is purified by the conditions of the path, it becomes the cause of nirvana. Why is it called the continuum? Because in the beginningless and endless samsara, it relies on the previous awareness to generate the subsequent awareness. The second is the tantra of the method: the tantra of the cause

This is the method to be free from sudden defilements. The path of maturation and the path of liberation, it is both method and tantra, therefore it is the tantra of means. Why is it a means? Because it is closer, easier, and accomplishes a superior result than the path of the Paramita Vehicle, therefore it is called a means. Specifically, through the Paramita Vehicle, it takes three countless eons to achieve Buddhahood, while here, those who are determined to be of the Vajra lineage, the diligent ones in this very life, and the lazy ones in the Bardo, obtain the accomplishment of Mahamudra. It is also an easy path, because without relying on the asceticism of the twelve qualities of purification, etc., one enjoys the five desirable qualities as one pleases, in a way that completely knows their own nature. It is also that which accomplishes a superior result, because it accomplishes the result that is distinguished by the bliss of the uncontaminated, enjoying the desirable qualities that transcend gods and humans, with the three bodies and five wisdoms. Why is it called a tantra? Because from the ground of the first karmic person up to the ultimate union, the later arises without interruption relying on the former path. That which is distinguished by the three bodies, five wisdoms, and uncontaminated bliss is the result tantra, because it arises from purifying the defilements of the means tantra, therefore it is also the result. And, from the Dharmakaya to the Sambhogakaya, from that to the Nirmanakaya, and from that to the activities that accord with the capacity of those to be tamed, it arises until samsara is empty, therefore it is also a tantra. Like that, the collection of texts that explain those three types of meaning tantra to be expressed is called the expressive sound tantra. That itself is called a king because it is similar to a king and the meaning tantra. For example, a king has three qualities: making his own army victorious and defeating the army of others; in the midst of consorts and retinue, being beautiful and radiant with the power of merit; being relied upon by all beings and possessing great fame in the world. Similarly, this tantra also defeats the army of the two obscurations through the path and conduct of the two ripenings and liberations, and makes the army of the two accumulations victorious.
