If it arises, then it is called the arising of an experience like illusion. At that time, focus the mind on all the appearances of the container and its contents, both self and other. Think: "No matter what, all of this appears, but it is not real, but like an illusion, like a dream." Generate a strong intention like that. Afterwards, contemplate it as being like an illusion. Thinking that it is not truly existent, look intently at the very nature of that mind. There is something that cannot be grasped. Relax into that and remain in equanimity. Do not manipulate or alter whatever arises. The essence of this practice is to show the intention of illusion as an extra on top of the previous devotion and guru's way of taking the path. Sometimes, dissolve the guru into light and absorb into oneself, and meditate on the intention of illusion. Sometimes, contemplate the guru as being in front or on the crown of the head, and in that state, meditate on the intention of illusion. Do whichever of these two is appropriate. This is the fourteenth instruction. In this way, even if one practices, if virtuous activity does not arise immediately, it is because one has not reached the ultimate level of devotion, and one's faculties are not fully matured. Now, the second one is for those of middling faculties, a guidance that is not interrupted by other words. There are two practices: meditating on one's own body as an empty form, a deity, and taking whatever appears as the path of illusion. The first is: from taking refuge up to praying to the guru, practice as in the case of the superior faculties. For about half or two-thirds of the session, pray to the guru. Then, the guru dissolves into light and absorbs into oneself. Remain slightly in equanimity in the inseparability of the guru and one's own mind. There, if a thought suddenly arises, look intently at one's own body and mind, and visualize oneself as a deity. Give it an analysis: "No matter what, this appearance as a deity is nothing other than an appearance of one's own mind, and there is not even a little bit of external existence. This deity is just the mind. The mind is just appearing as this deity." Strongly training in this intention is one key point. Also, the nature of the mind is not truly existent, and other than appearance, it does not exist anywhere in the outer, inner, or intermediate realms. There is nothing that can be called "the essence is like this." Appearance is appearance, but it is not real. Strongly training in the intention of illusion is the second key point. Then, by looking at the nature of the very mind that thinks of it as being like an illusion, that intention will also subside in its own place. Without making any distinctions, rest in whatever arises.
