Are not all these virtues due to the kindness of a qualified lama (Tibetan: མཚན་ལྡན་བླ་མའི་)? Do not displease the lama, but please him, and strive to do so at all times. The basis of all good qualities is discipline (Tibetan: ཚུལ་ཁྲིམས་). If you break your vows, you will fall into hundreds of thousands of rebirths. Therefore, by keeping discipline, listening, contemplating, and meditating, take the essence in the teachings of Shakyamuni (Tibetan: ཐུབ་པའི་). Those who always think of themselves wander again and again in samsara due to the faults of karma. The protectors (Tibetan: མགོན་རྣམས་) attain peace by benefiting others. Therefore, strive to accomplish both your own and others' benefit. Be very happy by exhausting suffering and bad karma. May I take on the harm of all beings. If there is happiness, it is the power of the Rare and Supreme Ones (Tibetan: དཀོན་མཆོག་), and that happiness should be given equally to all beings, without near or far. Cut the noose of miserliness with the sword of generosity. Cross the river of desire with the boat of discipline. Extinguish the fire of anger with the water of patience. Overcome the mire of laziness with the force of diligence. Wash away the stain of conceptual thought with the water of meditation. Raise the lamp of wisdom in the darkness of ignorance. In this way, cut the continuum of existence and go to peace. This is the staircase by which the victorious ones have gone. If you want to quickly enter the great city of liberation, then by the union of ripening empowerments and the two stages, and by training in the channels, winds, and drops, you will accomplish the vajra of body, speech, and mind. In short, the essence of all the sutras and tantras is the great sound called Mahamudra (Tibetan: ཕྱག་རྒྱ་ཆེན་པོ་). The instruction that directly establishes its meaning is what the victorious Kagyu (Tibetan: རྒྱལ་དབང་བཀའ་བརྒྱུད་) fathers and sons say. Like discarding grass in a garbage heap, discard meaningless writing and idle talk. Hold the elephant of mind with the iron hook of mindfulness. If it wanders without stopping, let it go as it pleases. Like undisturbed water that is clear, recognize with unfabricated mindfulness. Maintain the experience of great peace and bliss without clinging. Liberate sudden conceptual thoughts by leaving them as they are. Overcome dullness and excitement with the power of mindfulness. Pacify agitation by not binding it. Therefore, between sessions, the lama says that this is one-pointed yoga (Tibetan: རྩེ་གཅིག་རྣལ་འབྱོར་). Just as a black rope is a poisonous snake, samsara is a phenomenon labeled by concepts. Due to clinging, it appears to be true. Liberation is attained even without abandoning it. By seeing its own nature, the root of falsity is destroyed. The instruction is to look at whatever arises. It is not 'is', it is not 'is not', and it is not both. Know that it is neither both nor neither, and is free from elaboration. At that time, clinging is purified. At that time... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Clearly seeing all phenomena as illusion, the arising and liberation occur spontaneously; this is said to be the yoga of non-elaboration. The nature of mind is originally pure, But due to the sudden arising of ignorance, although afflictions and suffering are non-existent, they appear; yet, in the moment of appearance, they are empty and unestablished. Just as experiencing various dream states, Upon awakening, one realizes they are not real. Just as all the rivers of the world, When entering the ocean, become one taste; all phenomena arising in interdependence, When merged into the Dharmakaya, become one; Samsara and Nirvana are mere labels, Where is there acceptance or rejection? Thus, when observing appearances and observing the mind, Spontaneous accomplishment occurs without separation; the venerable one calls this one taste. When all pervades and becomes one, The mind that meditates and the object of meditation cease; just as a skilled illusionist understands illusion, Various illusions are manifested; thus, being free from all obscurations, The power of the illusory transformation of the two truths, inseparable, is limitless; through the blessing of compassion and aspiration, The two truths of Dharmadhatu merge into one; thus, all beings are benefited; this is the spontaneous accomplishment of union, The yoga without meditation is precisely this. Thus, may all beings understand this profound distinction well, Constantly benefiting beings without weariness; may they quickly attain the essence of Bodhi. May the victorious Buddha's teachings, In this delightful garden, the dance of explanation and practice constantly unfold; may all the disciples rejoice. This was written in the eastern region of Kongpo, in the practice community of Thubten Gongga Tsal, headed by Lama Gelong Paljor Lekpa, near the time of his passing, by Shakya Bhikshu Mipam Padma Karpo Chokle Nampar Gyalwai De. It was offered to the second Victor in the white part of the common Saga month at the foot of Yarlung Mountain in Tsang Yangme. Advice to the esteemed Sakya meditators: Not contradicting the intentions of the great scholars and accomplished ones, distinguishing what is right and wrong, If one is only proficient in words and phrases, they are not truly wise; they merely weigh words and meanings. Bewildered by Samsara, fearing death, Respecting the three vows, diligently listening, contemplating, and meditating; if one only has outward appearances, they are not a true practitioner. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
