Considering that the nature of all phenomena is pure from the beginning, and that there is not the slightest difference to be found apart from this, it is said that there are such things as the discursive dharmakaya and that afflictions are wisdom. Since this very nature of purity cannot change in all the stages of the ground, path, and fruition, there is no need to say that it is the discursive dharmakaya at the time of the ground and not at the time of the path. There is no difference in how it is at both the ground and the path. Whether or not the dharmakaya appears depends on the mind of the individual. Although it is indeed present, it does not appear as the dharmakaya because it is not recognized as being present. And this 'not recognizing' means that it has never been established at any time. Therefore, even in the face of this non-recognition, the dharmakaya is unwavering. As Saraha said, 'That which is in the house, you go outside to seek. Having seen the master of the house, you ask the neighbors.' Like that, having seen the very master of the house that you need, you do not recognize him, and you ask others, 'Who is this?' Although you do not recognize him as the master of the house, he does not change from being the master of the house. This principle is mentioned in the *Twofold Scrutiny Tantra*: 'Having abandoned samsara, one will not realize nirvana elsewhere.' And in the *Heart Sutra*: 'Form is emptiness; emptiness is form. Emptiness is not other than form; form is not other than emptiness.' And in the *King of Samadhi Sutra*: 'One does not see it that way, that form is one thing and the essence of form is another. One does not see it that way, that the essence of form is one thing and the Tathagata is another. Whatever is the essence of form and whatever is the Tathagata, that is the nature of reality, which is non-dual. If a bodhisattva mahasattva sees it that way, he engages in the perfect knowledge of individual dharmas.' The Bhagavan explained this extensively. If there are those who see discursive thought as a fault of the dharmakaya, then ask them this: Is there a common basis of appearance for ordinary beings and noble ones, or not? If not, then as Maitreya said, 'In this, what is unappetizing also appears as the supreme taste.' The unappetizing must be the appearance of the Buddha alone. If there is a common basis, then it is established that for ordinary beings, only impurity appears; for yogis, experiences appear; and for Buddhas, the dharmakaya appears as a common appearance to all of us. If that is the case, then if the basis of appearance is not the dharmakaya, and the Buddha sees it as the dharmakaya, then wouldn't the Buddha be seeing things upside down? That would be too extreme. If the appearance of the noble ones is made to be more powerful, then it must be said to be the dharmakaya. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It becomes so. Furthermore, in some of the instructions of Kunchen Dolpopa (ཀུན་མཁྱེན་དོལ་བུ་པའི་, Omniscient Dolpopa), there is a refutation of considering discursive thoughts as Dharmakaya (ཆོས་སྐུར་, Chosku, Body of Dharma). It says: 'Appearing as the aspect of Samsara (འཁོར་བའི་, cycle of existence) yet not Samsara, appearing as the aspect of thought yet not thought.' He himself acknowledges this as a good system. However, to what appears as the aspect of thought, it is acceptable to call it thought, but no one calls the pure nature of thought as thought. Those who consider discursive thoughts as Dharmakaya, thinking that although it appears as the aspect of thought, its essence is Dharmakaya, thus posit discursive thoughts as Dharmakaya. Therefore, I see this refutation as baseless. Some within the Sakya (ས་སྐྱ་པའི་) school, taking as tenets 'the aggregates appear as illuminating,' 'earth is the Buddha-eye,' 'ignorance is the wisdom of Dharmadhatu (ཆོས་དབྱིངས་ཡེ་ཤེས་),' and the view that 'Samsara and Nirvana (འཁོར་འདས་) are inseparable,' also refute discursive thoughts as Dharmakaya. If they encounter a wise person, it is like encountering a collection of self-destructive substances. I personally see that the intention of those who consider discursive thoughts as Dharmakaya, and the definitive meaning explained by those who do not agree with this view, are fundamentally the same in the eyes of the wise. As long as one clings to discursive thoughts and Dharmakaya, one has not transcended thought. When the mind of good and bad disappears, that is Dharmakaya, because it is liberated from elaboration, so it is appropriate to follow whatever is comfortable. This very yoga of the union of the path of learning is characterized by realizing all phenomena as equal in taste, therefore it is called the yoga of one taste. In the 'Two Examinations' it says: 'By meditating on the equal taste, equal is said to be the same. Therefore the wheel is said to be taste, meditating on one taste is equality.' This actually expresses: 'All beings arise from me, the three realms also arise from me, I pervade all this, I have not seen any other nature of beings.' Fourth, not moving from the state of Dharmata (ཆོས་ཉིད་, nature of reality) in the post-meditation period. If compassion bursts forth in Samadhi (མཉམ་བཞག་ཏུ་, meditative equipoise), then there is what is called 'the cane falling' between Samadhi and post-Samadhi, which is the state of realizing the self-nature of no meditation. In all situations, not moving from the appearance of the sole Dharmata is called not moving from the state of Dharmata in the post-meditation period. When that Dharmata transforms into the nature of great compassion, it benefits and brings happiness to sentient beings as long as Samsara exists, which is called compassion bursting forth in Samadhi. Benefiting others with great compassion is called the post-meditation period. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
