Collected Teachings of Omniscient Pema Garbo PK49, Commentary on the Abhidharma 8-708 Commentary on the Abhidharma Chapter 1: Showing the Characteristics of All Dharmas Commentary on the Abhidharma In Sanskrit: Abhidharma-vibhaṅga-kārikā (अभिधर्मविभङ्गकारिका,Abhidharma-vibhaṅga-kārikā,Analysis of the Abhidharma) In Tibetan: Chos mngon pa rnam par 'byed pa'i tshig le'ur byas pa Homage to youthful Manjushri! To the practice of accomplishment, not abiding in the realm of nirvana, Having entered the three paths, I pay homage to them. This is a collection of all treatises, Explaining the oral instructions through differentiation. For realization, for repetition, For overcoming, for awakening, this is the Abhidharma. With meaning and words, well distinguished, With the determination of characteristics, it is explained. What is 'existent', what is 'cause', what is 'grasping', What is the characteristic, what is its establishment, What is the order, what is the meaning, what is the metaphor, What is the summary, what is the correspondence, what is the possession, What is truth, what is dharma attainment, what is discourse. What are the skandhas, dhatus, and ayatanas? 8-709 The five skandhas, eighteen dhatus, The twelve ayatanas, all have been well explained. The skandhas, dhatus, and ayatanas of grasping, Are established by the possessing dharmas. Grasping is desire and attachment, The skandhas of the future and present, Are manifestly accomplished and not abandoned. To explain the five bases of self, With the body and complete grasping, The six uses of the past and present. For grasping, the two are the future, The gates of arising of the six consciousnesses. Skandhas are nominally existent, therefore without essence. They cannot be intentionally distinguished by speech. However, with the speech of their basis, In order to realize them, this is said. Touch, thought, form, action, feeling, Gathered and known, mind arises in the object. Manifestly creating, it is only the nature of meaning. Superior knowledge is the characteristic of form, etc. The use of arising is the grasping dhatu. Place, object, self-nature are the gates. Root, object, consciousness, all the dhatus, The unarisen consciousness is the gate of arising. The differences of ayatanas are based on location. The establishment of form is the four great elements. With them as the cause, there are eleven forms. The basis of consciousness is root, combination, root. The object of the root's action is called 'meaning'. Here, there are twenty-one forms of color. There are eleven sounds, six smells, and Twelve tastes, one side of touch has Twenty-two, the form of the dharma-ayatana has five. Their true arising is not a revealing form. It is the revealing form and that which arises from samadhi. 8-710 Nominally existent, unmanifest, unobstructed. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ་པ།
