To cultivate the preliminary practices of body, speech, and mind, including settling the mind, is as follows. From the *Thar 'gyur*: "Having perfectly arranged the vajra posture, training the body benefits the mind. From uttering the word Hūṃ (藏文:ཧཱུྃ།,梵文天城体:हुं,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:吽) for speech, increasing power, training energy, and entering the path of seeking gentleness, training speech in this way benefits the mind. The mind's initial place of arising, its abiding in the middle, and its going in the end, thus, by examining these three (446), training the mind knows the nature of the mind." And so on. Then, settle into the natural state. By doing so, the sins of body, speech, and mind are purified, obstacles are pacified, and there is the necessity of liberation into the three kāyas. Second, the actual introduction is twofold. From the *String of Pearls*: "Practice is Trekchö and Tögal, the measure is the yoga of the four sessions." Thus, first, through Trekchö, settle the mind in the great rootless state of no basis, and practice all appearances and mind as the great original liberation, the natural state. From the *Wordless Letter*: "Those who wish to cut the stream of samsara, perfect themselves in the realm free from activity. Being free from extremes, it does not abide in the center, being completely perfect, it is free from extremes. Being without remainder, it is not a part, not one, the two extremes are exhausted. The basis of words that cannot be expressed, the meaning of the essence free from elaboration, knowing this, the path of samsara is blocked." And so on. From the *Lion's Complete Strength*: "Grasp the nature of no meditation, free from meditation, practice the experience (447) of being without passing away, free from protection and boundaries." And so on. Thus, by becoming accustomed to original liberation, self-clarity, and the natural state, the measure of liberation is: the very mind that has no hope or fear, acceptance or rejection, towards samsara and nirvana. In the nature of luminosity, free from elaboration, unwavering certainty, conviction, and immutability arise. This is called settling through the view of the nature of original purity. Second, Tögal is to adjust the posture and the way of looking, slowly exhaling the breath, and gazing without distraction into the center of the cloudless sky. Initially, in the white, subtle, and fine, one sees the vajra chains, the expanse of phenomena adorned with bindus. This is called seeing the meaning of direct awareness, and thus being equal in fortune to the primordial Samantabhadra. As the *Secret Conduct Seed Tantra* says: "The way of looking at the expanse and awareness, free from obscurations, is to look at the sky.

Within the earth, the Vajra Chain, Truly abiding and inseparable, Whoever sees it in this way, Is equal to the Primordial Samantabhadra, And their fortunes are equal. Thus it is said. Third, the arising of the four appearances has four aspects. First, the appearance of the manifest Dharmata is, Starting from the first appearance of the pure realm that departs in bliss (page 448) from the heart, Within the Dharmadhatu appearance of rainbow light, three bindus and subtle points appear connected like a flame, The Vajra Chain becomes clearer, And the lamp of empty bindus sometimes appears and sometimes does not. Second, the appearance of increasing experience is, After that, the appearance of the five lights of the Dharmadhatu, And the lamp of empty bindus always appears, The Dharmadhatu wisdom brocade pattern spreads out from four fingers' breadth from the space between the eyebrows, Appearing as upright, radiating horizontally, circular and dense, like a stupa, like a lotus, like an arrow and arrowhead, etc., At that time, one does not go through the womb door, but proceeds to the Svabhavakaya, When the light appears like a single Rudratzama, it is the same, covering as much as a country, and the extent of vision, These appearances are in peacock feather patterns, brocade tents, and mirror patterns, Many bindus are connected to the outer ring, In this first Bardo, there is the power to liberate, It is said there, Focus on that, appearance increases, From seeing the nature, it arises like this, If four fingers from the eyebrows spread out, A fortunate (page 449) son, How could he enter Samsara again? Whatever appears like a shipwreck, By this, the qualities of the Nirmanakaya are accomplished, Whatever appears as much as a country, It is like a cluster. Thus it is said. A cluster refers to the circular density of the Dharmadhatu appearance, surrounded by four lotus petals. Third, the appearance of perfected awareness is, After that, in the center where the Dharmadhatu appearance fills everything, The bindus are surrounded by a fence with five connected rings, In the center, first from the crown of the deity to half the head, From the whole to the upper body, etc., until the five Father-Mothers appear surrounded, That yogi can penetrate all mountains and rocks, and like a madman, has no fear or shame, Therefore, qualities such as the divine eye and clairvoyance arise from the cause, and the body becomes a light body, the body blazes.
