(Sakyamuni Buddha) appeared, the son of King འོད་མཛེས་ had already passed away, and it is said that he stayed in the Bardo (intermediate state) three times. (Elder Bhikkhus) and others say that the lifespan of the Bardo is indefinite, this is said to instill fear in some and considering that some powerful causes and conditions may arise, so it is a special case. For example, although it is said that the duration of a human in the womb is nine months and ten days, it is like an old person staying in the womb at the age of sixty. Therefore, if we speak here in terms of the majority of Bardos, according to the Abhidharmasamuccaya, if it stays like that, it stays for seven days, and that is the death transference up to that point. And, according to the Bhumiśāstra, 'If it is still not found, then after changing bodies, it will stay for another seven days.' Therefore, for those whose karmic impetus is very swift, on the very day that the previous life's body and consciousness separate, it is possible to obtain another body, so the state of the Bardo is very short. For those who are slightly slower, within a week, the causes and conditions for birth will be found. If it is not found, the mind-made body of the Bardo will be abandoned, and a momentary vision of death will occur. After that, according to the Bhumiśāstra, 'That which has transferred from death, either manifests immediately, or in another unequal state.' Therefore, after that death, if the interdependent conditions for birth gather, one will be born into the other six realms; if they do not gather, one will be born in that Bardo itself, and experience the enjoyments and visions, etc., mentioned earlier. For those who are very slow, according to the Bhumiśāstra, 'If the causes and conditions for birth are not found, it will stay for up to seven weeks. Beyond that, one will inevitably find the causes and conditions for birth.' Therefore, the visions of birth and death occur alternately, and after experiencing seven weeks like this, one will definitely obtain birth in any of the six realms. Through these statements about the length of life, from the shortest of one day to the longest of seven weeks, also recognize the Bardo. From now on, for all the perfect things of existence, there is not even a little bit that can be taken as the core, so make a strong determination to somehow be able to permanently separate from this samsara, which is of the nature of suffering. Furthermore, from the very profound instructions, the four terrifying sounds and the three frightening precipices, that is, the seven causes and conditions that create suffering in the Bardo, will be explained. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Regarding the four sounds of terror: When earth dissolves into water, there will be a sound like a mountain collapsing; when water dissolves into fire, there will be a sound like the ocean churning at the end of an eon; when fire dissolves into wind, there will be a sound like the fire of time burning; when wind dissolves into consciousness, there will be a sound like the wind at the end of time howling. Whichever of these sounds arises, it is due to the imbalance and conflict of the four elements, so you need not be afraid at all. The three terrifying precipices are: hell, hungry ghosts, and animals. Whichever of these terrifying sights of the lower realms you see, and fear that you will fall into them, you need not be afraid or uneasy. In short, whichever of the seven signs appears, understand that they are all illusions of the bardo arising from your own mind, and do not be afraid. If you are deluded by the illusions and become afraid, then it is most important to remember the refuge, and pray to the guru and the Three Jewels: 'I have no other hope or refuge, please take me in with your compassion now!' Seek refuge in this way. Remember the virtuous deeds you have done in the past. Recognize that you are in the bardo state through these seven ways, and think like this: 'Relying on the teachings of the virtuous friend, I must attain the state of perfect enlightenment, the fruit of Buddhahood, in this bardo state. For this goal, I will prostrate and take refuge in the precious Three Jewels, and receive the profound empowerment.' First, visualize in the sky in front of you the root and lineage gurus, the yidam deities, and countless Buddhas and Bodhisattvas appearing as if actually present. Then, with body, speech, and mind, respectfully prostrate to them, and follow along in recitation. You can prostrate to the main deity རྒྱལ་བ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Victorious One) and others, and if you wish, you can perform other prostrations in more detail. After that, enter into the empowerment and other stages. For those who are eloquent, it seems that they can guide through various ways such as the six uncertainties. But I think those sayings have no basis, are illogical, and are just words to deceive fools, so I have not written them down. Part Two: How to Act in Other Situations There are also two ways to act in other situations: Helping the yogi who is practicing, and helping ordinary people. The first is: the teacher should keep the deceased from being distracted, and the venerable --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
