1-216 Even meditating in this way, due to the influence of negative habitual tendencies from the past, illusions such as fear arise. Now, I will impart the instruction on recognizing these illusions as the four Kayas (bodies of Buddha): When the illusion first arises, observe from where it originates. It does not arise from any place, such as a location, therefore it is the unborn Dharmakaya (chos sku, 法身). That which is unborn has no obstruction, therefore it is the unobstructed Sambhogakaya (longs sku, 报身). There is no dwelling between arising and ceasing, therefore it is the non-abiding Nirmanakaya (sprul sku, 化身). The inseparability of these three is the Svabhavikakaya (ngo bo nyid kyi sku, 自性身). Just like the four Kayas attained by the Buddhas, you inherently possess them. Recognize this and continuously familiarize yourself with it. Having said this, I hope that the fortunate one practices the path as I have described and realizes the fruit. Again, for that purpose, generate pure aspirations as much as possible. Like this, speaking well according to the immaculate scriptures is a teaching that primarily focuses on benefiting others. It is the root of benefiting oneself both temporarily and in the long term. You should accept these nectar-like words. Abandon the food and wealth accumulated to satisfy ego, and the relatives who have been companions and loved for a long time. 1-217 Have compassion for those helpless, lonely, wandering, and suffering beings in the Bardo (bar do, 中阴). When relatives behind them are gloomy like dark clouds, with tears raining down and filling the earth, bodies convulsing like lightning, accompanied by the thunder of wailing, please have compassion for them. Abandon the evil discriminating thoughts born from the three poisons, and with the root of all Dharmas—unfabricated compassion—and skillful means endowed with the altruistic Bodhicitta (byang sems, 菩提心), guide the dead and the living onto the correct path. Completely abandon the two obscurations and their habitual tendencies, and as the infallible teacher said, with endless pure rituals, lead the dead and the living to the ultimate shore. Otherwise, if there is no compassion for the dead and no intention to benefit the living, but only meditation reciting gold, turquoise, tea, and silk, it will ultimately destroy both oneself and others, how sad! Just as beggars seek food everywhere, with the drumming, dancing, and armor that please the powerful, and the false rituals of singing whatever comes to mind, it will ultimately destroy both oneself and others, how sad! Not to mention meditating as it is in the scriptures, even following the words with the mind is impossible, like a parrot reciting, such false actions will ultimately destroy both oneself and others, how sad! Thus, directly and indirectly... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

By the merit of properly and excellently instructing the assembly of disciples, may the immeasurable, kind, and limitless beings quickly become the lord of two feet (Buddha). This instruction, called 'Clarifying the Ultimate Path,' which introduces the state of existence and the correct path to beings in the bardo, was written at E-wam Chokor Tser by Jadzalwa, Palden Dondrup Shrilanda Artha, relying on the urging of the supreme disciple Drungpa Kunga Gyaltsen, who was born into a noble family and whose discriminating wisdom is exceedingly clear, and adorning it with the practice of learned lamas, from the immaculate scriptures, including the connections between the sutras and abhidharma, both higher and lower. Sarva Mangalam! Shubham! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
