In the root verses of 'Ornament of the Earth' (sa pa gyan): 'The vase empowerment and related instructions are common to both the guru and the disciple.' In its commentary, Chandrakirti (zla grags) says: 'The method for accomplishing common siddhis and the generation stage are common to both the guru and the assembly of disciples.' 13-562 'Now, for the sake of the disciple, the secret empowerment will be explained.' Because it is said so, for Chakrasamvara ('khor lo sdom pa) as well, there can be a distinction between the guru's explanation and the disciple's explanation. Just as the special instructions that Jowo Naropa (jo bo nA ro ta pa) directly heard from Vajrayogini (rdo rje rnal 'byor ma) are designated as the disciple's explanation. Therefore, the special instructions on the generation and completion stages of the three doctrines of Luipa (lU nag dril gsum) are naturally considered the guru's explanation. Distinguishing the Guru's and Disciple's Explanations of the Special Oral Instructions. Third, distinguishing the guru's and disciple's explanations of the special oral instructions: Here, the meaning of the guru's explanation and the disciple's explanation exists, and it can also be called that. For the empowerment, guidance, blessings, and key points given in common to individuals of superior, middling, and inferior faculties, teaching them in one way is called the guru's explanation. And for a practitioner of superior faculties who has completed the three activities of approach, accomplishment, and action, and who strives to achieve the supreme siddhi of Mahamudra (phyag rgya chen po) in this life, and who is capable of guiding disciples for the benefit of others, teaching all the parts of the path completely and without error, from the empowerment, guidance, blessings, key points, and practical instructions of the lineage of sight that will be explained below, is designated as the disciple's explanation. As Jetsun Rinpoche (rje btsun rin po che) said: 13-563 'Although cherishing beings like an only child, because of love for a particular disciple, there will be concealment in writing.' Do not accuse the guru of this. 'Because of the difference in faith and diligence, teaching different Dharma to different people,' do not accuse me of this either. Sakya Pandita (sa paN) also said: 'To those individuals who have faith, diligence, and seek the supreme meaning, you possess the essence of hiding the profound meaning.' 'Please follow it!' Urging me in this way, because I could not bear to conceal it, I wrote the catalog of the stages of guidance.' Furthermore, in the 'Treatise on Dependent Arising' (rten 'brel las) it is said: 'However, the key point of profound dependent arising is still unknown to others. Relying only on books, even the practitioners of Lamdre (lam 'bras) will not understand this.' 'Respecting the guru's words, the practice of being accustomed to listening, and the oral transmission without alteration, completing all the instructions well, and because of pleasing the guru, the blessings are infused, and the water of empowerment has not dried up, well obtained...' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'During the practice of the Path with its Fruit, through the cultivation of the four empowerments and the four sessions, just as plants and flowers grow in a warm and moist place, the four oral transmissions are fully possessed, and profound dependent origination naturally arises.' Furthermore, Vajradhara Kunga Zangpo (Kun dga' bzang po, All Good) also said: 'The essence of oral instruction is the key instruction of arising three from two.' It is not for everyone to use; knowing this key instruction is the kindness of the guru.' Therefore, based on these reasons, please believe that these treatises clearly explain the terms 'assembly discourse' and 'disciple discourse' in a direct or indirect manner. Now, in order to eliminate disputes, first eliminate disputes over terminology. Fourth, regarding the elimination of disputes, there are two types: eliminating disputes over terminology and eliminating disputes over meaning. First, Some people think that it is inappropriate to use the terms 'assembly discourse' and 'disciple discourse' in the Path with its Fruit, because such terms only appeared after your Sakya master Lodro Gyaltsen (blo gros rgyal mtshan, Banner of Wisdom), and there was no such saying from Vajradhara (rdo rje 'chang, Diamond Holder) to Muschen. If you say so, then our Hevajra (kyE rdor, Black Heruka) tantra's way of teaching also does not have the terms 'assembly discourse' and 'disciple discourse', because such terms did not appear from Vajradhara to Sachen. But this is unacceptable, because in 'General Meaning of the Crown' it says: 'In eliminating disputes about the method of teaching, there are three situations: eliminating the fault of speaking too much and becoming meaningless; eliminating the fault of regarding one method of teaching as assembly discourse; eliminating the fault of regarding many methods of teaching as other methods of teaching.' And, in the second case, 'This is not correct, because neither of these two ways of teaching can completely explain all the tantras, and even if it is possible to completely explain all the tantras to a disciple, it is not possible to completely explain all the tantras to an assembly.' So, what are these two ways of teaching? Explaining all the tantras with the key instructions of two general meanings and three methods of explanation is teaching to the assembly; and for those disciples who can become gurus and have profound and extensive wisdom, a complete explanation is given. That is to say, explaining the common Paramita (pha rol tu phyin pa, Gone Beyond) and the common generation stage dharma by expounding the words of the Hevajra Tantra, the key instruction of the meaning of the words, the key instruction of the summarized meaning, and the key instruction of the meaning of the words, this is assembly discourse. On this basis, explaining the hidden meaning and the ultimate dharma by expounding the words of the Hevajra Tantra and those three key instructions, this is disciple discourse.' Therefore, this has been clearly explained. However, some may say that because the meaning of assembly discourse and disciple discourse exists in the three ways of teaching the Hevajra Tantra, these terms should not be used in other tantras. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
