Even oneself is no longer like this ordinary appearance, but in the center of the pure and clear non-dual wisdom self-appearance-accomplished pure land, visualize the principal deity of the mandala, glorious Vajrasattva, surrounded by all the refuge objects, such as the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas of all directions and times, appearing as if vividly present. In front of them, think that oneself and all other sentient beings take refuge until enlightenment, and repeat after me: Hūṃ Hrīḥ (藏文:ཧཱུྃ་ཧྲཱི༔) Hūṃ Hrīḥ (梵文天城体:हुँ ह्रीः) Hum Hrih (梵文罗马拟音:Hum Hrih) (Hūṃ Hrīḥ) I and all sentient beings of the six realms (藏文:བདག་དང་འགྲོ་དྲུག་སེམས་ཅན་ཀུན༔) I and all sentient beings of the six realms (梵文天城体:अहं च षड्गतिसत्त्वाः सर्वे) Aham ca sadgatisattvah sarve (梵文罗马拟音:Aham ca sadgatisattvah sarve) (I and all sentient beings of the six realms) Until the essence of enlightenment is not attained (藏文:བྱང་ཆུབ་སྙིང་པོ་མ་ཐོབ་བར༔) Until the essence of enlightenment is not attained (梵文天城体:यावद् बोधिं न प्राप्नुवन्ति) Yavad bodhim na prapnuvanti (梵文罗马拟音:Yavad bodhim na prapnuvanti) (Until the essence of enlightenment is not attained) Refuge, the embodiment of all, Vajrasattva (藏文:སྐྱབས་གནས་ཀུན་འདུས་རྡོ་རྗེ་སེམས༔) Refuge, the embodiment of all, Vajrasattva (梵文天城体:आश्रयस्थानं सर्वसङ्ग्रहवज्रसत्त्व) Asrayasthanam sarvasangrahavajrasattva (梵文罗马拟音:Asrayasthanam sarvasangrahavajrasattva) (Refuge, the embodiment of all, Vajrasattva) In every way, I take refuge (藏文:རྣམ་པ་ཀུན་ཏུ་སྐྱབས་སུ་མཆི༔) In every way, I take refuge (梵文天城体:सर्वप्रकारेण शरणं व्रजामि) Sarvaprakarena saranam vrajami (梵文罗马拟音:Sarvaprakarena saranam vrajami) (In every way, I take refuge) Three times. The benefit of taking refuge in this way is that one will quickly attain the state of Buddhahood. As it is said in the Nirvana Sutra: Whoever goes for refuge to the Three, Those ones will quickly become Buddhas. And as it is said in the Immaculate Sutra: Whatever merit there is in going for refuge, If it had a form, It would fill all of space, And it would be even greater than that. Thus, the preliminary practice of taking refuge, the foundation of the common vehicle, is completed. It is very important to generate the supreme Bodhicitta, the root of the Great Vehicle, which is benefiting others. These sentient beings, equal to space, who are constantly engaged in the causes and effects of suffering, we must liberate them from suffering and establish them in the state of supreme enlightenment. Therefore, take the Bodhicitta of the Great Vehicle and practice it properly. Thinking in this way, repeat after me: Hūṃ Hrīḥ (藏文:ཧཱུྃ་ཧྲཱི༔) Hūṃ Hrīḥ (梵文天城体:हुँ ह्रीः) Hum Hrih (梵文罗马拟音:Hum Hrih) (Hūṃ Hrīḥ) Though not moving from the state of emptiness (藏文:སྟོང་ཉིད་ངང་ལས་མ་གཡོས་ཀྱང་༔) Though not moving from the state of emptiness (梵文天城体:शून्यतास्वभावाद् अच्युतोऽपि) Shunyata svabhavad acyuto 'pi (梵文罗马拟音:Shunyata svabhavad acyuto 'pi) (Though not moving from the state of emptiness) With the samadhi of miraculous activity (藏文:མཛད་པའི་ཆོ་འཕྲུལ་ཏིང་འཛིན་གྱིས༔) With the samadhi of miraculous activity (梵文天城体:कृत्यनैर्माणिकसमाधिना) Krtyanairmanikasamadina (梵文罗马拟音:Krtyanairmanikasamadina) (With the samadhi of miraculous activity) Vowing to liberate beings (藏文:འགྲོ་བ་སྒྲོལ་བར་དམ་བཅའ་ཞིང་༔) Vowing to liberate beings (梵文天城体:सत्त्वान् मोचयितुं प्रतिज्ञाय) Sattvan mocayitum pratijnaya (梵文罗马拟音:Sattvan mocayitum pratijnaya) (Vowing to liberate beings) For the sake of others, I generate the mind of enlightenment (藏文:གཞན་དོན་བསྒྲུབ་པར་སེམས་བསྐྱེད་དོ༔) For the sake of others, I generate the mind of enlightenment (梵文天城体:परार्थं बोधिचित्तमुत्पादयामि) Parartham bodhicittamutpadayami (梵文罗马拟音:Parartham bodhicittamutpadayami) (For the sake of others, I generate the mind of enlightenment) Three times. Thus, the benefits of generating the mind of enlightenment, the root of all Dharmas, are also described in the Bodhicaryavatara: The moment the Bodhicitta arises, Those who are miserably bound in the prison of samsara, Will be called the sons of the Sugatas, And will be revered by the world with its gods and men. And again, in the same text: Like the supreme elixir of gold, Taking this impure body, One transforms it into the precious body of a Buddha, Therefore, hold firmly to what is called the Bodhicitta. And so on, it is endowed with immeasurable benefits. Thus, having trained the mind with the common preliminaries, the uncommon
