Although it is said that those whose minds are defiled by various impurities practice Dharma with deceitful means, they have long turned their backs on the Dharma and will inevitably fall into evil realms. Such a degenerate time will come. Therefore, although one should avoid the extreme of clinging to the essence of the Seven Tathagatas as the pure realm of Dharma, the practice of Kriya and Charya tantras should be carried out through the lineage of Manjushrikumara, and the practice of outer and inner secret mantras through the lineage of Vajrapani should be like treating the deity as the essence. In the degenerate age, sentient beings should perform offerings, praises, recitations, and practices as if practicing secret mantras. Therefore, I, Padmasambhava, having received and transmitted the outer secret rituals from the Lord of Secrets, such as offering rituals and empowerment for practice, should record them and hide them as treasures. After saying this, all those present requested: Please embrace us with compassion, as you are no different from the King of Medicine and Guru Rinpoche, and grant us teachings that are in accordance with the time for taming beings. Please grant us detailed and extensive permission. They made this request and offered by circumambulating, prostrating, and offering mandalas. At that time, King Trisong Detsen asked the precious teacher: The Kriya and Charya tantras transmitted from Manjushrikumara, and the secret mantras transmitted from Vajrapani, are the characteristics of the Bodhisattva lineage. How is it that within one vehicle, there are two different classifications of Kriya, Charya, and secret mantras? Guru Rinpoche replied: O King, although there is only one vehicle of Dharma, it is necessary to show various vehicles in accordance with the minds of different beings. Therefore, holding the Bodhisattva vehicle that is in accordance with each individual's capacity symbolizes that the tradition of the Buddha and Dharma will not decline, and it is a sign of auspicious interdependence. In this Jambudvipa, because there are many kinds of beings, there are also many vehicles of Dharma. In particular, because the place where the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas successively appeared is India, in that country, the four castes of kings, outcasts, Brahmins, and Chandalas each follow their own customs. Because they cannot change their customs, the teachings of the Buddha are also mostly in accordance with their customs. Although there are many kinds of minds among the beings in your Tibetan region, there is no distinction between the four castes, and because it is a remote area, most of them only have the habits of Chandalas.

O! Noble close sons and Bodhisattvas in general, and in particular the three lineage protectors, who show the way to tame those who need to be tamed, and who manifest transformations, are no different from the Buddhas and Noble Ones. Although there is no difference, the Lord of Secrets is the antidote to taming the difficult to tame, and among the four castes, he is the holder of the treasury of maturation for those who practice the Dharma in the Chandalas and border regions. Therefore, the land of Tibet is the world of the Chandalas, and the tamer is the secret lord who holds the Dharma. Through his lineage, the seven Tathagatas and our teacher, the eight Sugatas, with the power of their prayers and the energy of their blessings, in the future of the borderland of Tibet, in the very distant future, for the sake of liberation, it should be written down and buried as a treasure in the sacred place of Longtang Dolma. The reincarnation of the translator, when the time comes, should make prayers to benefit beings. After saying this, the king asked: How are the seven Sugatas and our teacher counted as eight? How can the teacher of this realm and the Buddhas of the past, as numerous as the sands of the Ganges, become one mandala? After asking this, Guru Rinpoche replied: King, listen well! Our lama is the Buddha Bhagavan. Therefore, the compassion of Buddha Shakyamuni, in the age of strife, when life expectancy is a hundred years, when the prayers of other Buddhas have ceased, he came as the protector of helpless beings. By this kindness, surpassing the prayers of other Buddhas, he spoke the Sutra of the Seven Tathagatas. In order to make beings of small intelligence, such as the sons of gods, rejoice and gain faith, he urged the limit of prayers and manifested the Tathagatas and others. Knowing that our guide is born from the incomparable kindness, if we offer to the lama Bhagavan, the chief deity of the mandala of the Seven Tathagatas, it is more virtuous than offering to a thousand Buddhas. Offering to one pore of the lama is more meritorious than offering to a thousand Buddhas. It is the root of virtue that accumulates merit, and together with the special prayers of the Seven Tathagatas, praying like a wish-fulfilling jewel, the accumulation of merit will increase more and more, like a wish-fulfilling jewel.
