It should be known that for the contradiction of what is vowed, that and that's refutation will arise. Second, all refutations by non-perceptual valid cognition are established as inference, therefore, although fame and trust are both included in it, in order to explain their difference, it shows the necessity by the way of harming their respective uncommon realms. For the examples of these two, trust and fame, in the commentary of the Compendium, it is fully explained with reasons, such as "It does not establish the object to be measured by valid cognition," which contradicts only the vow, and "Because none are common," etc., are explained with reasons. But for what is harmed by perception and inference, there are only examples, and the reasons are not explained in that way, such as "Sound is not audible," "The pot is permanent," etc., are only explained in this way. Third, in terms of refutation by perception: In the root, it is explained that it is necessary to mention "meaning." In the commentary, the example of "audible" is mentioned. First, it is enough to say "refutation by perception," why is it necessary to say "perceptual meaning"? Answer: For this harm by perception, it is also necessary to say "meaning," because the subject, such as the sound of phenomena, is an object of many contradictions such as being made and impermanent, and in the world it has become the nature of fame, what is it like? Like the hood of a snake, the mind that appears in various ways does not arise, therefore, it appears as non-dual in a way that is different from hearing, and for that meaning, "meaning" is said, because for whatever appears to the sense consciousness, the nature of the element of arising, if this is abandoned, it will become harm by perception. Therefore, the determination of "meaning," from the aspect of establishment, the nature of the self-characteristic itself is called the meaning of grasping, therefore grasping its appearance, from the aspect of negation, the remaining general characteristic of exclusion, only the freedom of discrimination, falsely imputing differences by discrimination, its own nature is the nature of non-reality, therefore it shows that it is not the object of the senses, because for it there is no self-characteristic, therefore it is for the sake of knowing that the sense consciousness of self-grasping cannot arise. Second, when explaining refutation by perception, it is enough to say "no sound," but it is recorded as "sound related to the senses is not audible."

What does this mean? The mere term "soundless" generally leads to doubts as to whether it refers to something that is completely non-existent, or whether it refers to the non-existence of sound that is constant and pervasive, or whether it refers to the non-existence of sound in this time and place, etc. Therefore, it is necessary to use words to indicate that it is being eliminated by direct perception. Even if one says, "Sound never exists," it will ultimately contradict direct perception, but this must also be related to being in the realm of auditory consciousness, otherwise one cannot say that it is eliminated by direct perception. Therefore, mentioning "what is heard" creates a very clear understanding. For example, since the general characteristic is not the realm of sensory consciousness, it is established that the phenomena of the general characteristic cannot be measured by direct perception. Even if one vows to abandon it, if inference harms it, then it is eliminated by inference, not by direct perception. It is not that there is harm from direct perception. It is just like saying "sound is permanent," which cannot be eliminated by direct perception. Therefore, in order to clearly understand elimination by direct perception, it is shown by mentioning "what is heard" as an example, because "what is heard" is only definitely the realm of auditory consciousness and will not be confused with general characteristics, etc. If one says, even if one says "what is heard," it will be understood as the general characteristic of what is heard, and therefore it cannot be eliminated by direct perception, so it is necessary to say "sound has no self-characteristic," then, even if one says "self-characteristic," since in any case, the self-characteristic is not the object to be expressed, the expression of the general characteristic by sound is the same for all sounds, but since phenomena and speculation are mixed together and express the self-characteristic, therefore, if one prohibits saying that sound does not possess the nature of what is heard, then the auditory consciousness itself will cause harm by being established through direct perception. Even if one says "no self-characteristic," it has the same meaning as saying "no sound." Therefore, the self-characteristic of sound is not the realm of sound, but the realm of auditory consciousness, and since auditory consciousness is established through direct perception, it is necessary to rely on that auditory consciousness to establish its name, and because the power of the direct perception of auditory consciousness harms the side that contradicts the proposition, the "what is heard" spoken through the door of the senses is a special grasp of the scope of activity of the senses, thus clearly explaining elimination by direct perception. Second, explaining on what it is eliminated. It is the elimination that harms the self-basis. It is not a fault of the proposition such as the basis not being established. First, there is the necessity of complete exclusion, the necessity of distinction, and the inclusion of them. First, there are two: the thing itself and avoiding disputes.
