What is it similar to? That is the meaning. The way to establish the existence of external objects is that the external object is different from the inner consciousness, so it is believed that the external object composed of many dust particles is different from the inner consciousness, but that is not a real object, because the analysis of the reality established by the cause of the appearance has denied it. Second, even if the external object exists and the appearance is similar to it, it is wrong to think that the appearance of consciousness is the measure of establishing the external object, because the mind itself cannot prove that the external object is the nature of being experienced. Experiencing the appearance of consciousness does not prove that another similar thing is experienced, because the two are different. Since this is the case, it is wrong to think that experiencing the inner consciousness is the same as experiencing the external object, just like seeing one twin cannot say that the other is like this. Second, similarity alone is not enough to establish cognition of the object, because the appearance is both similar to the object and derived from the object. If it is said that for such a generation, the similar appearance is the consciousness of experiencing the external object, or the characteristic of the cognition of the object, then the appearance consciousness similar to the previous object will become the immediately following wisdom or experience of its own similarity. For example, if a blue flower is taken as the object, and two moments of consciousness are generated, then the latter consciousness is similar to the former consciousness, and also derived from the former consciousness. Therefore, even if it is derived from it and similar to it, it is never possible to experience one by experiencing another for different things. For something that has not been truly experienced by the mind, there can be no measure to establish it, just like the son of a barren woman. The latter mind is only similar to the immediately following mind and derived from the former mind, but it is not similar in all aspects. If it is thought that the appearance is very similar to the object, then the mind and the object are not similar in all aspects, because different dharmas cannot be consistent in all aspects, and if they are consistent, then the mind and the object will become one. Third, the way to establish that the appearance is the cognition of the object is not only to produce similarity.

That is because it itself is determined to be object cognition. For example, the form of the external object is seen, and the sound is heard. Similarly, for smell, feeling, etc., on whatever object the mind of the subject enters, and it is determined that it is the cognizer of that object, that is the proof that the mind experiences that object. If you say, if it is determined by the power of things that "this is the experiencer of this thing," then of course it is possible. But for what reason is that determination considered to be the proof of object cognition? The proximity, that is, the relationship, of the appearance of that object and the object seen by the subject's mind should be examined. Because things and object cognition depend on the relationship as object and subject, it is necessary to generate the determination that "the subject of this object is this," for the viewer, the listener, etc. If the relationship itself is not established, it is impossible to lead to the determination that "this is this," just like a vase and a cloth. Therefore, when examining the relationship between object and subject, the relationship of non-arising without it cannot be understood. Because the thing itself has never been regarded as different from the image of knowledge, and the relationship of non-arising without it cannot be established by inference either, just like the appearance of two moons and dreams. It is not possible to infer from having obstruction, contact, and common appearance, etc., because in dreams there is also obstruction, there is also a stable appearance, there is also a common appearance from the cause of common actions, and there is also a common appearance due to common habits. What is the difference? In any case, the appearances within each are not the same, and the cause that appears to be common is the same in both, so there is no other way than to regard the knowledge that arises from stable habits as the reality of the stable appearance of external objects. Once the undeniable experience of the object is established, then the establishment of this as merely self-appearance, through the power of things, will clarify how the situation of worldly seeing and hearing, etc., is. Therefore, the ultimate state of the worldly is that it exists as it is, and if a true analysis is made, because the mind is not established either, it is equal to external objects, and in the worldly, external objects are also established, saying this is done with respect to the emptiness of ultimate reality, and how the phenomenal worldly appears.
