For example, just as things like women appear as they are, they suddenly appear, and when the mind is disturbed by the habit of fear, the forms of snakes and ghosts, etc., appear clearly, and also because one is distraught by the grief of a son's death, one sees the son himself, etc. Distraught means that those things have disturbed the mind. In the explanation of Lhawang Lo, it says: Desire, sorrow, fear, madness, thieves, dreams, etc., disturb. Here, distraught is said to mean madness. In reality, desire or sorrow, and fear, these three causes disturb the mind, causing madness, and then, just as the clear appearance of that realm appears. Besides these causes, there are also Like worrying that a thief will come, when falling asleep with doubts, one dreams of a thief in a dream produced by habit, and so on, using "etc." to quickly surround, and omens of death, etc., disturb consciousness, and things that are not actually present also appear clearly, as if they were in front of one's eyes, so it is reasonable that habit produces clear appearances. Second, refuting the debate about what is real and uncertain. First, in that kind of clear-appearing realm, one sees without discrimination, and it cannot be confused with symbols. Whatever can be confused with symbols, and the appearing realm that is connected with discrimination and what follows it, is not something that appears clearly, and this, because it appears clearly, is established as non-discriminating. Second, dreams are not non-discriminating because they have no realm, and although they are discriminating, they are clear-appearing, so it is not certain that discriminating thoughts do not have clear appearances, if one thinks like this. Dreams are not discriminating, but are the mind's non-discriminating mistaken consciousness. The reason for saying this is that in dreams, one's own realm at that time also appears clearly, and the things of the past are recalled unclearly, and what is recalled is not the kind of meaning that one's own clear appearance had at that time. Third, generally explaining the way in which habit produces clear appearances, distinguishing whether it is valid cognition or not and explaining it. First, when one meditates on impurity, that is, meditates on what is unpleasant, and when one is extremely accustomed to samadhi such as earth kasina, even if the skeleton, which does not actually exist, and all realms appear as earth, etc., the realm does not exist externally, but is manifested by the power of internal meditation, if one sees it in a non-discriminating and clear-appearing way, then the realm and

Once one is accustomed to continuously focusing on this, what need is there to mention the arising of clear appearances? Since habituation brings about clear appearances, whichever object, whether correct like impermanence or incorrect like skeletons, one has intensely meditated upon, once one has completely perfected the meditation on that object, then that object of meditation will manifestly appear clearly, and will be the fruit of the arising of non-conceptual or non-discursive wisdom. Secondly, even so, not all wisdom of clear appearance arising from habituation is valid direct perception. What is valid direct perception? Like the previously explained nature of the four noble truths, such as impermanence, which corresponds to the actual state of affairs of the object, and which is a meditative direct perception that is non-deceptive in meaning, those are considered to be yogic direct perception arising from meditation. The remaining, such as the field of appearance of ugliness, etc., although appearing clearly, are not valid, because they are emanations merely through attending to them in another way, and are consciousnesses that are close to being deceptive. However, this is in relation to external objects, and even illusions such as exhaustion are not illusions, because they are merely ascertained as self-appearances, and are not apprehended as being established in that object itself, therefore they are not mistaken in the field of appearance of self-awareness. Similarly, the appearance of a double moon is also a mistake in relation to the object, but is not a mistake merely in the field of appearance of self-awareness. Secondly, showing the concept to be removed, and summarizing the four direct perceptions: As it says in the Scripture on Valid Cognition: Conceptuality is also considered to be self-awareness, because it conceptualizes there, not on the object. Therefore, for direct perception, the concept to be removed is that any consciousness that relies on any object, and holds the name and meaning of that object, whether mixed or holding the mixed, then, in relation to that object, that is called the wisdom that conceptualizes on that object. However, the nature of conceptuality itself, from the perspective of the clarity and awareness of experience, name and meaning are not mixed. At that time, the apprehended aspect is also the self-characteristic of consciousness, and the apprehending aspect is also non-conceptual towards it, therefore, self-aware direct perception is non-conceptual. Therefore, whatever conceptual and non-conceptual objects appear in the essence of self-awareness or consciousness, all of them become self-aware direct perception, therefore, there is no consciousness that is not included by self-aware direct perception. Secondly, the opposite side
