Some aspects of the mind itself are clear about the object, and therefore enter, some are unclear, and some become hesitant. Therefore, past karmic actions gather the various causes for experiencing happiness and suffering. Second, the experience of happiness, etc., is self-cognizant, and there is no other that can experience it. If analyzed, happiness, etc., are self-cognizant. Through this statement, it is reasonable to understand its meaning. First point: Do sense consciousness and mental consciousness enter sequentially or simultaneously? Among these views, refute that happiness, etc., are experienced by others. First point: Refute by analyzing the consciousness with an object. Refute by analyzing the meaning of the object taken. First point: Refute the views of separately grasping the object and happiness, and grasping both. First point: Sense consciousness does not grasp happiness at the time of its own arising, and alternating grasping is also unreasonable. First. Experiencing happiness, etc., is undeniably established, but if the experiencer and the experienced are different, then it is unreasonable, therefore it is experienced through the way of self-cognition. If it is not like this, happiness, etc., cannot be experienced, because whether one believes that sense consciousness and mental consciousness arise simultaneously or not, it is unreasonable to grasp happiness. According to the first view, when objects such as form approach the object taken by sense consciousness, the consciousness that grasps that object and the feeling of happiness, etc., will arise simultaneously, which is proven through experience. If such an object taken is abandoned, how can sense consciousness recognize the qualities of the inner self, such as happiness, etc.? Abandoning the nearby object, how can it apprehend the inner things that are not its own object? This is impossible. If it cannot apprehend, then the enjoyment of happiness by sense consciousness of the object cannot be felt by anyone, because you believe that the object itself is not the cause of happiness. Therefore, when sense consciousness arises towards an object, if that happiness is not a co-emergent mental event produced by the object, then it should not arise in that way at the time of its own arising, and you believe that mental consciousness will not arise at that time either. Second, if the object and happiness are not grasped simultaneously, but sense consciousness grasps the object and mental consciousness grasps happiness, grasping alternately in sequence, then neither the object nor the experience of happiness will appear to be without interval, because there is an interval between each other.

If it is said that even if there is an interruption, it appears as if there is no interruption because of the speed of entry. If the speed is the same for both, then if things appear to be uninterrupted, why wouldn't there be no other experience like happiness because of it? Because those things that appear to be uninterrupted do not give the other thing even a moment or a tiny bit of the opportunity to appear. If this is the case, and the appearance of both things continues uninterrupted, then there is no doubt that they will appear simultaneously, just like looking at blue and yellow together. Even if the appearance of interruption cannot be created by interruption, and a delusion is created because of the speed, it is unreasonable not to obscure the other thing because of the appearance of delusion, just like in the circle of continuous rotation of the torch, nothing else can be seen except the torch. Second, refuting the view that one consciousness holds both things and happiness. If it is said that things and inner happiness are observed simultaneously by the senses, so there is no time sequence, and both appear to be uninterrupted. If this is the case, one sensory consciousness cannot know both its own object and the object of others, because the mind of the senses is completely determined by its own object, and if it is not, sometimes the ear will also hold form, etc., which will lead to faults. Moreover, if the merit of the inner self is only the object of consciousness, then how can the consciousness of the senses such as the eye that observes the external object observe it? It is impossible to observe. In addition, even if the object of the sensory consciousness is only things, and there is no other happiness, etc., but because the experience of happiness, etc. will arise from these things, the ability to produce sensory consciousness is not established for the object of happiness, etc., because happiness is the Dharma of the inner consciousness, and it is never possible to observe that it exists in the external object, so if it is taken as the object of perception, sensory consciousness cannot arise. Second, examine things. Refuting separate holding. Refuting simultaneous holding. First, are these things and happiness observed separately or simultaneously? If it is the first case, can both things and happiness separately, that is, separately, also produce their own holding consciousness? If so, just like blue and yellow, etc. can also produce sensory consciousness, things as objects
