It has been analyzed and clarified. How is it analyzed? The Samkhya school says: "The 'intellect' that arises from the Pradhana is like a double-sided mirror, and the manifestations of the Pradhana, the nature of sound and so on, pleasure, pain, and equanimity, these dharmas are without consciousness and are not the dharma of the inner knowing Purusha, but are external dharmas, because these are impermanent and have birth." What they want to express is that saying intellect and pleasure are impermanent and have birth is established in the view of both internal and external parties. If this reason is established, then it can also establish non-consciousness, they think. How does it establish non-consciousness? They themselves consider the meaning of "impermanence" to be that things arising from the external Pradhana dissolve back into it, and they do not consider that there is a new birth that did not exist before, nor that there is a complete cessation of what existed before. If so, if "impermanence" is established, then the meaning of impermanence and having birth will conform to their own intentions, they think. If that is the case, that kind of impermanence that they themselves intend is not established on the intellect and so on in the view of the inner Buddhist. And the meaning of impermanence as spoken by the Buddhist is not established in their view, so this reason cannot be established in the common cognition of the two debaters, only the sound is established, and it cannot establish any meaning they intend. Even if it is established in the view of the Buddhist that the intellect and so on will eventually perish, this cannot establish non-consciousness. Furthermore, the naked ascetics say: "The tree has consciousness, because when the bark is peeled, it dies." This is presented from the Buddhist point of view. The Buddhist also admits that the term "death" can be applied to trees. If this is admitted, then it can also establish having consciousness, they think. But the death spoken of by the Buddhist refers to the extinction of the root consciousness, life force, and the three that exist in the same category, this meaning is not established in trees. It is only said that when a tree dries up, it is said that the tree is dead, and when milk rots, it is said that the milk is dead, it is only said like that, but this cannot establish having consciousness, because it is only said to be dead when it dries up and so on. Therefore, if it is established merely because the sound is the same, then not only trees, but also mud and so on will be established as having consciousness. If they admit this, then the naked ascetics themselves consider the non-life force things, when sound, smell, light, etc. disappear, there is no saying of death.

It does not cause harm. Third, summarizing the established meaning: Because of such reasons, no matter what sound is used to express it, if the essence of the thing that serves as the basis for the reason is not established as a common appearance on the subject, it will become the case of the unestablished property of the subject as mentioned above. If the meaning of the reason is established, even if one establishes other names for it according to one's own intention and argues that the name is not established. But if one thinks that due to the difference of intention, names are established for other things, and says that the name is not established, then this does not hinder the reason from establishing what is to be proven. For example, sound is the subject. It is impermanent, because it is made. When stated like this, the reason of being made is not established, because sound is the attribute of space, so it is not made. Making such an accusation does not make the reason unestablished. Because on sound, the dharma of difference that is completely conceived by one's own intention, relies on space, or is the attribute of space, which is famous in his own treatises. Even if for sound, being made is not established. But the phenomenon produced by the cause of the acting tongue, etc., is established as a common appearance for both opponents, and Buddhists establish it as made, therefore the thing that serves as the basis for the reason is it, even if the difference of its name is changed, the thing cannot be changed, therefore by the power of the thing, sound is established as impermanent. Therefore, for the meaning of just sound, although it seems that the reason is not established due to the different understanding of intention, if the meaning of intention becomes the reason, then establishing other names cannot cause obstruction. Like this, even if the sound of that reason is not established, but if the thing to be grasped as the reason is established on that subject, then it can also establish the thing to be proven that is related to oneself. And the meaning of the collection that is particularly indicated by the thing to be proven will also be established, for example, in order to establish that the atom is permanent as claimed by the Vaibhashikas, Buddhists say that having a body and being obstructive, etc., as arguments that the atom is not permanent. How is it? The atom is the subject. It is not permanent, because it has a body. Like a pot. When stated like this, in the view of the Vaibhashikas, the sound of having a body is not established, because he thinks that for the amount of matter that is not pervasive,
