Therefore, one must be especially respectful to the teacher and strive to practice his yoga. If others think, even if the teacher is not Shakyamuni Buddha, but whether it is a Buddha with the image of renunciation and detachment, or a deity with a wrathful or peaceful appearance, what difference does it make which one is respected? In terms of essence, there is no difference. Because the wisdom bodies of all Buddhas are equal, and there is no high or low in terms of abandonment and realization. But if only in terms of nominal distinctions, relying on the compassion of the teacher, there will be the generation stage and path stage practices of the peaceful or wrathful forms of the deities of each school. Just as the source of all the rivers of Jambudvipa is Lake Anavatapta, all the great and small practices of the Sutra and Tantra paths arise from the compassion of this teacher. Therefore, just as praying to one's own root guru brings more blessings than praying to other gurus, due to the connection, praying to Shakyamuni Buddha brings blessings faster than praying to other Buddhas. So, does this mean that one is prevented from praying only to Buddhas other than Shakyamuni? That is not the case. No matter which deity one prays to, in reality there is no difference from the teacher Shakyamuni Buddha, and one should know that all Buddhas are equal in the Dharmakaya. The teacher manifested himself in various different deity forms in order to be the refuge and support for us sentient beings in this degenerate age. If one thinks that the teacher and one's own deity are different in meaning, and abandons the teacher to cling to other deities, it will be difficult to attain accomplishment. Similarly, in the system of Anuttara Yoga Tantra, the lama who has become one's own Vajra Master is in essence no different from all the Buddhas of the past, present, and future, and his kindness is even greater than the Buddhas of the past, present, and future. Because without the lama, even if the Buddhas of the past, present, and future were present, one would not be able to receive blessings and attainments. Therefore, offering to one pore of the lama's hair is far more excellent than offering to the Buddhas of the past, present, and future. Pleasing the lama

By merely diligently practicing, one can please the Buddhas of the three times and receive blessings, as widely praised in the Vajrayana scriptures. Therefore, the lama is the embodiment of all the Three Jewels, or also known as the Fourth Jewel. Thus, as stated in the scriptures, "Compared to the Buddhas of the three times, the lama should be regarded as more important." If one wonders whether there are other more supreme methods than the practice of Guru Yoga, the answer is affirmative. In the system of Tantra, there is no path more profound than Guru Yoga, nor is there any other method that serves as a gateway to receiving blessings like it. However, the lama who imparts the secret mantras to you is actually an emanation of the teacher, Shakyamuni Buddha. As stated in the Nirvana Sutra, "Do not grieve, Ananda, do not weep, Ananda. In the future, I will manifest as a virtuous friend, appearing for the benefit of you and other beings." Similarly, by practicing the Sutra and Tantra paths taught with compassion by the teacher, Shakyamuni Buddha, these lamas are also the spiritual sons born from the teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha. And those lamas who possess realization have received the blessings of the conventional and ultimate Bodhicitta from the mind lineage of the teacher, and are the heart-sons of the teacher. Therefore, no matter what Guru Yoga one practices, one should know that it is inseparable from the teacher, Shakyamuni Buddha. Moreover, whether one practices the lama or the Yidam, one should know that the two are not different, and that they are also not different from all the Buddhas of the three times. If one holds notions of superiority and inferiority, acceptance and rejection towards the Buddha, then accomplishments will not arise. It is important to understand the kindness of the teacher and to have great respect for him, recognizing that the lama is inseparable from the teacher, and then engaging in the visualization and mantra recitation yoga of the lama or Yidam, one will surely achieve great accomplishments. Therefore, when relying on the ritual of remembering Shakyamuni Buddha to perform visualization and recitation, one should understand that the venerable lamas who individually teach the Sutra and Tantra doctrines, as well as all the Three Jewels of the three times, are all gathered in this, and one should perform visualization and recitation with such faith. However, here, the emphasis is mainly on remembering the Buddha in the manner of a Sutra ritual.
