Although I know that the earth is neither beneficial nor harmful to me, and I intended to remain indifferent, at this time, due to the urging of others, you have extensively elaborated with subtle reason. Therefore, by briefly stating the key points through reasoning, I know that this action will not become a cause of anger for those who possess the Dharma eye. Otherwise, as the Blessed One's teachings state, Bodhisattvas who see the twelve meanings strive for virtue and do not argue with others. Although speaking with the intention of understanding each other's doctrines, it actually proceeds as if refuting what is incompatible. Regarding the methods of refutation and establishment, there are also those with great wisdom who accomplish through the guise of refutation, and refute through the guise of accomplishment, and inevitably speak of key points that are in accordance with reason. If not so, there are those who speak arbitrarily with thoughts of attachment and aversion, or with the intention of being wise, merely hoping to compose by excerpting others' treatises, or stubbornly entering with bias regardless of whether it is reasonable or not, speaking obstinately, or speaking properly with reverence for the precious Dharma, or explaining vaguely based only on others' words or meanings not deeply contemplated by oneself. In short, there are differences in the degree of understanding, whether there is meaning or not, whether it is endowed with reason or not. As the teacher Dandin said: The speech of the wise, well-combined, is said to be the wish-fulfilling jewel of speech. If combined poorly, then the combiner becomes like an ox. Thus, the wise are able to distinguish without confusion, and there is no anger towards the various manifestations of the minds of beings, whether reasonable or not. However, if one does not understand in this way, and does not see even where the key points of meaning tend, merely hearing words of refutation and establishment, most beings of the degenerate age create causes for anger and so on, which is unnecessary. Especially in the degenerate age, life is short and there are many diseases, and particularly for oneself, one will be severely tormented by serious illness in the future, and what is common to all, the punishment of aging is approaching day by day, and death is waiting in front, and so on, sorrow is increasing. At the same time that the sun of the Buddha's teachings is setting on the western mountain peak, the barbaric forces of the dark side are becoming strong.

In this time of seeking (wisdom) and so on, if one can incorporate the teachings of the holy masters of both the new and old schools into one's mind, it would be very meaningful. This is just a sincere statement made off the cuff. Therefore, with your meticulous reasoning, for the sake of increasing the wisdom of future beings, your eloquent teachings are also a skillful means of compassion. I have no dislike for even the slightest detail. Even if the words of restraint enter into rough speech, it is because there is no rough thought. May you be free from the bondage of clouds of delusion in the vast sky of reasoning. Again, continuing from the previous discussion in the debate letter, the verses that enhance joy with beautiful poems polished by the constant and excellent truth, and accomplish wisdom through the blessings of the upright truth are: Other actions that do not abandon the heart of compassion are in accordance with the behavior of monks, and because the prayers of the learned and virtuous also bear fruit, it is good. After that, the auspicious verses that scatter the auspicious flowers of blessings in all directions are rich in the nuances of words and meanings, and even transform into a state of increasing joy for the wise. However, because I am worried about too many words here, I have not written them. Those who want to see them should know that they are the ornaments of Manjushri's intention. Here it is said: For the best of the many wise men of the north, you are a precious offering placed on the top of the hair crown. You are the unparalleled lion of eloquence, with a far-reaching reputation. Your innate and acquired wisdom is very vast, and you are also embraced by the Guru and the Yidam. You can instantly draw the rivers of countless doctrines with your keen wisdom. You have the power of unobstructed teaching, debating, and writing, and the merits of practicing the three trainings in accordance with the Dharma are like ripe, abundant fruits. I joyfully scatter flowers of praise, and in your pure mirror of wisdom, countless images of phenomena and emptiness, like illusions of knowledge, appear clearly without being mixed. With skillful means and compassion, you are the teacher who can show everything. May you live long, prosper in peace, and fully possess the Dharma kingdom of accomplishing the two benefits.
