Without examining the nature of phenomena, merely taking pleasure in them, one should know that everything is like an image, etc., completely without inherent existence. Having abandoned all afflictive and cognitive obscurations, for the sake of those who wish to control the wealth of perfect endowments for the benefit of themselves and others, one should familiarize oneself with this unsurpassed way of conduct, and with the mere intention of encouraging others who share the same fortune as oneself, to briefly distinguish the meaning of this treatise. It is divided into the branch of what is to be said and the actual subject matter to be said. First, following in the footsteps of previous scholars, I will briefly explain it in the manner of the five reckonings. So, who composed this treatise? It was composed by the great scholar Śāntarakṣita, famous as the sun and moon in both India and Tibet, who reached the pinnacle of the biographies of the wise and virtuous, and indisputably attained the high level of accomplishment. For whose sake was it written? It was written for the sake of those who seek profound and vast wisdom that cannot be taken away by others, drawn from the meaning of all the treatises of the Great Vehicle through correct reasoning. To which category does it belong? It belongs to the category of the common teachings of the Great Vehicle and the profound sutras such as the *Moon Lamp Sutra*. The summarized meaning of the beginning and end is: it clearly shows the phenomena summarized by the two truths, which are the non-inverted nature of reality. The purpose is to easily attain certainty about the meaning of all the Great Vehicle, and thereby attain supreme enlightenment. To elaborate a little on these, first, this author is, in the *Mañjuśrīmūlatantra*, when prophesying about patrons of the teachings, those who uphold vows, and Brahmins, at the beginning of the section on those who uphold vows, it says: 'The Teacher's teachings on the earth, when the world declines in the final age, one with the appearance of a king who upholds vows, will appear, without a doubt.' Thus, it generally proclaimed that many kings or main figures who uphold vows would appear. Among the many prophesied holy beings, 'One named *yi ge ba*, will proclaim the upholders of vows.' Thus, it clearly proclaimed the beginning of the name, and finally, all of them were prophesied to attain enlightenment through mantra accomplishment. And in the *Laṅkāvatāra Sūtra*, regarding the antidote to the arising of heretical views in the future,

For example, after that, one called "Guide Wisdom" will appear, who will demonstrate the five knowledges, and will become a great hero. Therefore, past scholars have said that "Wisdom" is a kind of title for a Khenpo (abbot). Shantarakshita appears to be a name for ordination. In addition, there are many other titles. The five knowledges refer to establishing the five dharmas through reasoning and prophesying that all Mahayana views will be unified. Similarly, in the Samadhiraja Sutra, it says: In the degenerate age, which Bodhisattva will protect the supreme Dharma of the Sugata's teachings? They are my sons, who will protect the Dharma in the future. They are entrusted by a hundred thousand million Buddhas. Thus, the name "Bodhisattva Rakshita" is fully shown. If the Khenpo's name is read as it is in Sanskrit, then here it would be better to read, "In the degenerate age, which Bodhisattva?" The word "rakshita" means "to live" or "to protect," so the word also appears together with the meaning expressed. Being able to guide various direct, indirect, and suggestive ways is a characteristic of the Buddha's teachings. This teacher introduced the immaculate views of these two sutras into the path of reason and pioneered the tradition of the two ways, so the reason for the prophecy in these two sutras also lies in this. Furthermore, the distinguishing feature of the qualities of this great chariot, which is repeatedly prophesied in many sutras and tantras, is: As it is said, the teacher Shantarakshita has reached the other shore of the ocean of tenets of self and others, and takes the untainted lotus stamen of the feet of the noble Lord of Speech upon his head. As it is said, from early original histories, we can see: This teacher was born as the son of the king of Zahor in the east, and was ordained by Yeshe Nyingpo, the Khenpo of the Sarvastivada community of Nalanda, and was given the name Bodhisattva Shantarakshita. He became proficient in all fields of knowledge, became the Khenpo of Nalanda, defeated all evil adversaries, and the fame of his wisdom spread throughout the earth like the great roar of a lion. At that time, a Brahmin heretic from the south, who was proficient in all the Vedas,
