Those who hold fly whisks and other objects in their hands, cover their lower bodies with peacock feathers and yak tails, and pluck their own hair, practice asceticism by eating while standing, and whose views are like the nature of the sky, contemplating themselves or the one mind as pervading all things, etc., these harmful, mere reflections of the path, deceive those who go themselves for the sake of liberation. If nakedness leads to liberation, then why are dogs and foxes not liberated? If plucking hair leads to liberation, then women who pluck the hair from their genitals, etc., for the sake of auspiciousness of the birth place should also be liberated. Those who wear peacock tails and raise them upwards, if raising the tail feathers leads to liberation, then peacocks and yaks should also be liberated, because they raise their tails. If standing and eating leads to liberation, then why are horses and elephants not liberated? Because the reasons are the same. Arrow-Joined (Tibetan: མདའ་བསྣུན་ན།, Sanskrit Devanagari:, Sanskrit Romanization:, Chinese literal meaning:) is the name of Saraha, because he joined the arrow of non-dual wisdom with the dualistic conceptual thought, hence he is called that. The so-called Sky-Minded ones are those who believe that the self is permanent, one, independent, and pervades all things, that is, they believe that the four characteristics of the self are the same as the sky and emptiness, etc., and those minds that cling to the self and the Lord as two, will never attain liberation, because they have not realized selflessness. Separated from the Suchness of Co-emergent Bliss, and possessing only external physical asceticism, monks, novices, and those who have taken full ordination and have been resident for ten years, all possess such asceticism. The Pandits (Tibetan: བནྡེ༷་) having renounced as described above, some explain the meaning of the Sutras and enter the Sarvastivada school. Some think that all dharmas are of one taste, only the forms of mind are the same, holding such a school. Some strive for the Great Vehicle and proclaim the Middle Way. These all speak after examining the authoritative treatises of Buddhist logic. Besides these, there are also those of the mantra side, practicing the generation stage of contemplating all the mandalas and wheels, and some practice the meaning of the four empowerments.

Entering into explanations based on sound concepts, some people think of nothing, just randomly contemplating like the realm of space, and fixating their minds on the emptiness. Others purify with shunyata (梵文天城体:शून्यता,梵文罗马拟音:śūnyatā,藏文:ཤུ་ནྱ་ཏ་,汉语字面意思:空性) and so on, and at the end of the generation stage, they gather into clear light, thinking it is emptiness, and become attached to it. Those people! They boast that their own way is the ultimate reality, but most of them are engaged in the opposite of the correct reality. Apart from the innate, co-emergent nature, by what other means does one meditate on the path of nirvana? None of them will achieve the ultimate truth, because other than the objects of conventional thought, no other thought can arise. If someone merely assumes that what they like is the reality, will they attain liberation by abiding in their own meditation? No, because reality itself does not follow one's own desires. What artificial rituals are needed for meditating on reality? What need is there for lamp offerings and food offerings? What is the use of diligently making offerings to reality? What need is there to recite secret mantras and other teachings? There is no need to go to the bathing ghats or practice asceticism, because does one attain liberation by entering the water? It is meaningless. Whoever enters emptiness without compassion has not found the supreme path of the Great Vehicle, because they have strayed into the path of the Hearers and Solitary Realizers. However, even if one does not understand emptiness and only meditates on compassion, one will not attain liberation from remaining in this samsara of the Brahma realms and so on, because one has not realized the meaning of selflessness, which cuts the root of existence. Whoever is able to unite emptiness and compassion, by realizing emptiness, will not remain in samsara, and by compassion, will not remain in the one-sided peace of nirvana, thus attaining great nirvana. Calling out "Alas!" and like this, all that is spoken with attachment to the object of grasping and the object of the grasper is actually false and deviates from the reality of things, so abandon them completely. For any dharma, if one clings to it with the object of the target, saying "This is it," then this is also a bond, so let it go. If one realizes the meaning of the true nature, then everything is co-emergent; anything other than that is meaningless.
