There is nothing surprising about giving away possessions. Similarly, because he possesses great compassion that desires to eliminate the suffering of all sentient beings, he upholds the precept of not killing other lives. Because he has cultivated the mind of cherishing others more than himself, he is able to be patient with others. Similarly, just as fire enters firewood, he effortlessly and naturally enters, having attained the supreme meditation, so he exerts diligence. In order to attain equanimity towards himself, sentient beings, and all phenomena, he is not discouraged when engaging in benefiting others. He savors the taste of meditation, and through wisdom, he does not fixate on characteristics. Engaging in these and by virtue of them, there is nothing surprising from being born into a lineage until attaining unsurpassed enlightenment, because if one possesses these qualities, how could one not attain such activities and results? Because it is the nature of things. Third, How is equanimity? Just as a wise person has extreme love for all sentient beings, feeling pain and pity, sentient beings do not love me. Sometimes, due to mental disturbances, they commit suicide or take poison, etc. Towards their wives, children, and groups of relatives, they sometimes strike out of anger, etc., and love is not something that will never be abandoned throughout all lifetimes, so the bodhisattva's love is not like that. Therefore, because the bodhisattva has attained the love of equanimity towards all sentient beings, there is no partiality like giving to one's own relatives and not giving to others. For those who come seeking wealth, he gives impartially, without distinguishing between friends and enemies, rich and poor. He guards the precepts, both prescribed and natural transgressions, without discrimination, always guarding them without decline. He is always patient with places, times, and all sentient beings. For the sake of benefiting all sentient beings, he continuously exerts great diligence without interruption. He always abides in virtue and the undefiled meditation of virtue without decline. And through wisdom, although he can distinguish all phenomena without confusion, he does not decline from the state of non-conceptualization in which the objects of the three spheres are completely purified. Such bodhisattvas are those who have practiced the perfections to the other shore.

The accomplishment of those actions, because there is no diminution or partiality, so one should understand the mind as being equal in this way. Fourth, in terms of benefiting others, benefiting through the six perfections, and showing seven kinds of examples of how to benefit, the first of these two. Giving makes sentient beings the very vessels for practicing virtue, that is, for those who are unable to practice Dharma due to a lack of food, clothing, etc., giving them what they desire, making them happy and content, and then establishing them in the Dharma; abiding in one's own discipline and establishing others in discipline, thereby benefiting; whatever harm others may cause, enduring it; working for the benefit of others, going without difficulty in every way; through the power of meditative concentration, showing miracles, etc., inserting those to be tamed into this correct teaching; with the power of wisdom, cutting off all the doubts of all sentient beings and teaching the Dharma of the three vehicles, this is what the wise consider to be benefiting all sentient beings. The seven examples are clarified in order by the words of the context: Whichever Bodhisattvas constantly treat sentient beings, with impartial love and equal compassion, never abandoning them, holding them until the end of samsara, this is just like a mother holding a child in her womb. The ground of the noble ones is from the path of seeing of the great and small vehicles to the state of no more learning. Nurturing on that ground of the noble ones is like a mother giving birth to a child from her womb; causing sentient beings to increase in worldly and transworldly virtues is like a mother giving milk and food to her child, and nurturing them with bathing and massage, etc.; protecting sentient beings from the suffering of the three lower realms, etc., and from all the misdeeds of accumulating negative karma, which is the cause of that suffering, is like a mother protecting her child from cliffs and precipices, etc.; teaching the Dharma to sentient beings and purifying their hearing, is like a mother teaching her child names, words, symbols, and terms. Thus, through these five actions, the princes are like the mothers of sentient beings. Similarly, at all times, for all sentient beings, generating faith in the Three Jewels is like a father generating a child from a seed.
