Understanding all phenomena that appear as grasper and grasped, and understanding all phenomena included in the aggregates, elements, sense bases, etc., is understanding conventional truth. Understanding that the object to be understood, the basis of understanding, the understander, and the understanding itself—that is, understanding that the three spheres are not inherently existent—is understanding ultimate truth. Thus, because of understanding these five dharmas: the three characteristics and the two truths, one is called a Bodhisattva. Furthermore, one is called a Bodhisattva by knowing the five aspects: Understanding the accomplishment of the unsurpassed great enlightenment is understanding the manifestation of the three kayas in the great Akanishta. Understanding the place is knowing that the Bodhisattva of the last existence abides in the place of Tushita (藏文:དགའ་ལྡན།梵文天城体:,梵文罗马拟音:,汉语字面意思:) and benefits the gods. Understanding the entry into the womb is knowing that one enters the womb of a mother in Jambudvipa and ripens sentient beings there. Understanding the sequence is knowing that one emerges from the womb, enjoys the five desirable qualities in the palace, renounces from home and goes forth, practices austerities, and shows the manifestation of enlightenment with a nirmanakaya on the Vajra seat. Understanding that after becoming a Buddha, one turns the wheel of Dharma to dispel the doubts of all sentient beings. For this reason, one is called a Bodhisattva. This is shown from the perspective of the Bodhisattva of the last existence manifesting great enlightenment on the basis of the sambhogakaya in Akanishta, and then knowing the way to show great enlightenment in Jambudvipa with a nirmanakaya. Second, the Bodhisattva is shown through the door of knowing the eleven distinctions of knowledge. One is also called a Bodhisattva by knowing and understanding the eleven aspects of knowledge. The eleven aspects are: the three: past, future, and present; inner and outer; coarse and subtle; inferior and superior; near and far. Furthermore, the intelligent Bodhisattva knows the past dharmas, which is called knowing what has been obtained, because those past dharmas have already obtained their respective entities. Understanding the dharmas that will arise in the future is called knowing what has not been obtained, because those dharmas have not yet been accomplished or obtained in their own entities.

The realization of the Dharma of view is called 'perfectly abiding,' because it arises and does not cease. A Bodhisattva's realization of impermanence, suffering, etc., through his own wisdom is inner knowledge, because it is realized by his own inner wisdom. Knowing from the cause taught by other virtuous friends is realizing following that external condition. The wisdom that separately explains the self and common characteristics of all phenomena is the coarse one that relies on names, words, and letters. The wisdom of being absorbed inwardly is the peaceful one that abides in non-conceptualization without verbal expression. Up to the seventh ground, it is the wisdom of self-grasping, which is ordinary or inferior, because it is accompanied by subtle tendencies of self-grasping. From the eighth ground onwards, the non-conceptual wisdom is spontaneously accomplished, so there are no subtle tendencies of self-grasping, hence it is the wisdom of conquering self, which is excellent. Alternatively, the self-grasping one is the realization of the ground of practice with aspiration, because the conceptualization of subject and object has not been abandoned. In the noble ground, the conceptualization of subject and object is abandoned, hence it is called conquering self. Immature wisdom is the wisdom up to the seventh ground, because the non-conceptual wisdom has not been spontaneously attained without effort. This is distant wisdom. The wisdom from the eighth ground onwards is called perfectly mature, because the non-conceptual wisdom is spontaneously accomplished without the need for effort, hence this is near wisdom, because it is near the Buddha ground. Alternatively, immaturity and maturity are named in the ground of practice with aspiration and the noble ground. This concludes the explanation of the twentieth chapter, the chapter on qualities, from the Ornament of the Great Vehicle Sutras. Twentieth Chapter: Chapter on Qualities.
