And the words and sentences are without defilement. What is the purpose of such adornment? It is to liberate from suffering. From what cause does this arise? It arises from compassion for suffering beings. With whom is this related? It is related to the Dharma of the Mahayana teachings, and this treatise shows that it is related to the teachings and branches of the Mahayana, and to things similar to branches. Upon whom does this rely? In that way, for sentient beings. It means that this is for the sake of Mahayana practitioners, therefore it relies on their continuum, just as birds perch on trees. The explanation in the Great Commentary seems difficult to understand, so here the key points are briefly and concisely explained. Furthermore, if explained from the perspective of the accomplishment of the expressive sound being the main thing, then, who is the author of this treatise? It is indicated by "Knowing the Meaning," that is, the lord of the ten bhumis, Mipham Rinpoche, who knows and sees the meaning of all the Mahayana sutras as they are, thereby attaining the true wisdom of realizing the respective meanings. His activity is: "Skilled in explaining the meaning," that is, with the power of the true wisdom of realizing the respective meanings, he is skilled in explaining all the meanings of the sutras. In what way does he do it? "The language and words are without defilement," that is, the expressive language is pure, understanding the respective dharmas, and the language that sentient beings can understand, understanding the respective meanings, without the defilement of obscuration. For what purpose? To liberate all sentient beings from suffering. What is the motivation or cause? Having the nature of wisdom and compassion, the great incarnation, with great compassion for all suffering beings. In this way, this treatise arises from the perfect causes and conditions of writing, does it belong to the Mahayana or Hinayana, or with what is it related? "The Dharma of the Mahayana teachings," that is, it belongs to the Mahayana and is related to the Mahayana. For whom is this treatise written, and upon whose continuum will it rely? "In the form of the Dharma of the Supreme Vehicle, for the sentient beings, the Bodhisattvas," it should be understood in this way. Moreover, the stainless speech, in short, has eight branches, namely:

The so-called "possessor of the city" refers to mastering the city of liberation, or a widely known term. Pleasant and delightful means that the sound is pleasant and makes people feel happy. Clear and distinct means that the words and letters are beautiful. Fully understood means being able to completely understand its meaning. Worth listening to means having great significance, containing the sacred truth of the Dharma, not dependent on anything, is great joy, and continues to grow. Without contradiction means that it conforms to the heart and is desirable. Without obstruction means that it is extremely vast, and even the wise cannot reach the edge. The first of these eight merits is from the perspective of mastery. The next two are from the perspective of essence. The remaining five are from the perspective of combination. Pure and immaculate words also have eight elements: the rationality of words and letters means that names, words, and letters are related to each other in order. The meaning is logical, and the connection refers to the meaning and wealth or the ability to realize meaning. Consistent means a perfect explanation of the meaning. Appropriate means that the words and letters are clear. Rich means that it goes deep into the heart. Coordinated means that it is completely coordinated with the environment. Appropriate means that it is in accordance with the Dharma, has meaning, and appears at the appropriate time. The collection of elements of diligent practice means that diligent practice is diligence, that is, becoming proficient and persistent. The collection of elements means having correct views, etc. That is to say, preaching words with such meaning. If someone asks, what is the rich meaning explained through the five supreme metaphors? The great teacher Vasubandhu once said: What should be proven, what should be understood in detail, what should be thought about, the inconceivable, and the meaning of complete enlightenment, each should be understood by one's own wisdom, and is the nature that is consistent with the path to Bodhi. Although these five aspects have been said, if someone asks, what is the meaning of this short word? Various teachers have different views. Teacher Wisdom Steadfast believes that these five words are from the perspective of five things, three natures, and three individuals, and expounds the classification of three combination methods. In short, these five things encompass everything in Mahayana, and if they are combined, these five things are: name, cause, discrimination, suchness, and non-discrimination.
