Due to arising in sequence, there is the state of being tender, and from that arises the state of being soft, etc. The former is the cause, and the latter arises and ceases with the nature of the effect, and arises without interruption. The words "and" etc. are for gathering with the following words, so there is no need to explain them specifically. Growing larger and larger is because the differences in size, shape, and form, etc., are different, so it changes in an instant. Similarly, if the body were permanent, then there would be no change compared to the initial time, so it would become meaningless to increase the body with food, etc. But that is not possible, because it is undeniable that the body increases with food, etc. Thus, momentary impermanence is established. Eye consciousness, etc., arise relying on the objects of their own supporting sense faculties, which is reasonable for the impermanence of momentary nature. If it were permanent, then it would not be possible for it to be a support, because the permanent does not need to rely on any cause, and it is not reasonable for the permanent to produce other effects. Even so, eye consciousness, etc., do not arise without relying on the sense faculties. Therefore, both the supporting sense faculties and the supported consciousness are established as momentary impermanence. If you think, what contradiction is there if the supporting sense faculties are permanent and thereby produce the supported impermanent consciousness? Just as when the riding horse, etc., is not there, the rider, the person, etc., is also not there. It is impossible for the supported consciousness to not remain and change into something else while the support does not change into something else and remains permanent. Just as when the supporting cloth is burned, the supported blue color is also burned, both the support and the supported are inseparable in the characteristic of impermanence. It is undeniably established that the form of the body changes due to attachment, etc., and that children and youth, etc., arise fully matured in other different states. If it were permanently abiding, then it would not be possible to perceive such changes and maturation, because whatever the state of the thing is, it is impossible for another form to arise from it. Therefore, it is established as momentary. If it were not momentarily changing, but temporarily abiding permanently, what contradiction would there be? It is extremely contradictory. If the first moment does not perish but remains as it is, then the initial state will always remain as it is, and will never change in the end. Because in the first moment there is

Just as there is no other time, even in all subsequent moments, it is highly unreasonable for all undifferentiated phenomena to become solely permanent, because at no time is a self-natured permanent phenomenon observed. If one thinks that phenomena remain without changing for a certain period of time and then cease, then if phenomena remain permanent without changing for a moment, a short time, a day, a month, a year, or even a kalpa, and then cease at the end, it is unreasonable to have a long or short duration of cessation, because all phenomena will remain permanent like the first moment of arising, and will never become the moment of destruction. If the phenomenon at the time of arising and the phenomenon at the time of destruction are the same, then will the time of arising also perish at the moment of arising like the moment of destruction? Or will the phenomenon at the time of destruction also remain for a certain period of time like the moment of arising? Because they are considered to be the same. Therefore, the length of time from the first arising to the final moment of destruction allows us to infer how many different moments there are. The so-called "initially not decaying, ultimately not changing" is the root of reasoning, so the key to everything lies in this. The commentary says, "For abiding, it is impossible," which is the establishment of both the arising of change and complete maturation, and "initially not decaying, ultimately not changing" is also said to be another way of establishing it. The change of the body due to desire, etc., is not momentary, but it is said that it is impossible for the original phenomenon to remain as it is. The complete maturation of the state of children and adolescents, etc., is also reasonable only when the first moment ceases and another moment arises. If it does not decay initially, then it will not change ultimately, because if the initial state does not disappear, it will remain forever. Even if arranged in order, no difference in meaning is seen. Similarly, the observation of inferior and superior births is feasible when one believes in momentary impermanence. If it is not momentary impermanence, then the ultimate change is also unreasonable, so it is impossible to produce inferior and superior births. Similarly, light and non-light are also impossible, which can be understood by the previous reasoning.
