I offer two praises to compassion that is without Dharma and object. The first: Before the arising of the ego, or initially, clinging to the existence of a self with the grasping of "I," and generating attachment with the clinging to reality to objects such as the eye as "this is mine," like a water bucket without autonomy, to the beings who revolve from the peak of existence to the Avici hell, I prostrate to the one who has compassion for them. Just as the rotation of a water bucket, like being bound by a rope, the world of beings is tightly bound by the ropes of karma and afflictions 1; like someone turning a wheel, it operates relying on the movement of consciousness 2; the great well of samsara, from the peak of existence to the Avici hell, is thrown down deeply and without interruption 3; downwards it naturally falls into the lower realms, and upwards one must strive to reach the higher realms 4; although there are the afflictions of ignorance, craving, and grasping, as well as the karma of action and existence, and the three pervasive afflictions born from the remaining seven branches, the order of these three is not entirely fixed, they enter one after another without interruption 5, like a torch. Day by day, the suffering of suffering and the suffering of change, and the three pervasive sufferings of conditioned existence, like water ripples, because they are impure, therefore they are in accordance with the six dharmas. The second: Beings are like the moon in the water stirred by the wind, moving without stopping for even a moment, and to the sentient beings who are distinguished by seeing emptiness as their own nature, I prostrate to the one who has compassion for them. That is, like the moon in clear water stirred by a gentle breeze, together with the supporting water, it is impermanent in every moment, and seeing emptiness as its own nature, similarly, bodhisattvas, controlled by compassion, in the ocean of beings seeing aggregates as real, the vast water of ignorance flowing to increase it, abiding within it stirred by the wind of improper attention, like the moon in the sky, those appearing before them like reflections of black and white karma, are merely established as dharma, with beings who are decaying in every moment as the object, and with emptiness as their own nature.

Focusing on sentient beings. In short, It is the compassion that focuses on sentient beings distinguished by the absence of inherent existence, focuses on sentient beings distinguished by impermanence, and focuses only on sentient beings not distinguished by either of these two. Therefore, it should be known that the aspects of all three compassions are the same in wanting to be free from suffering, but there is a difference in the object of focus. Second, regarding the actual content of the treatise to be composed, there are two types: the explanation of the temporary grounds and the explanation of the ultimate grounds. First, there are two types: explaining the ten grounds separately and explaining the qualities of the grounds. First, there are explanations of the five grounds such as Joyful, explanations of the sixth ground Manifest, and explanations of the four grounds such as Far-Reaching. First, there are explanations of the first ground, Joyful, the second Immaculate, the third Illuminating, the fourth Blazing, and the fifth Difficult to Subdue. First, there are two types: explaining the first ground in reality and summarizing the chapters. First, there are three types: briefly indicating the essence of the ground as the basis of characteristics, extensively explaining the qualities of the ground as characteristics, and concluding by stating the qualities of the ground. The first is: This son of the Buddha, Whatever being's mind, seeing the absence of self-nature, in order to liberate them, is dominated by compassion, and the first ground practitioner makes countless hundreds of thousands of aspirations such as the ten great Bodhisattva vows, which are included in the aspirations of Samantabhadra Bodhisattva, therefore, through these aspirations, the virtues are completely dedicated, and abiding in the wisdom of the first ground, Joyful, which is without dualistic appearance, is called the first mind that transcends the world. Second, there are three types: the merit of beautifying one's own continuum, the merit of overpowering others' continuums, and the merit of showing the superiority of the first ground. First, there are three types: the merit of obtaining a meaningful name, the merit of obtaining the characteristics to be taken such as being born into a lineage, and the merit of stopping the obstacles to be abandoned such as the evil realms. The first is: From the moment of entering the first ground, because of obtaining the true mind, one is called the true Bodhisattva, because one is a noble Bodhisattva. Second, there is the merit of lineage, the merit of abandonment.
