It is one thing to be free from leisure and the five self-endowments. Such a human body is a special support capable of accomplishing Buddhahood, so it is difficult to obtain from the perspective of its essence. Among sentient beings, the beings of the three lower realms are very numerous, as endless as the dust of the great earth. The beings of the higher realms are very few, said to be like the dust on a fingernail. Moreover, among the three lower realms, the fewest are animals, and most of these live in the vast ocean and are inconceivable. Even scattered, they almost fill all the land, mountains, and rivers. For example, even the sentient beings living in a pile of grass in summer are endless. Compared to that, the beings of gods and humans are like a very small part, and in general, the beings of humans are also few. In particular, a human body endowed with Dharma is like a very small part, so it is difficult to obtain from the perspective of number. The reason why it is so difficult to obtain is that among sentient beings, those who commit evil deeds are very numerous, and those who do good deeds are very few. In particular, guarding the precepts that can lead to obtaining a human body is like a very small part, so it is difficult to obtain from the perspective of cause. Even so, it is possible to obtain a human body by virtue of good causes, but if there is no connection with the companions of good deeds such as generosity and pure aspirations, then the completing unwholesome conditions will throw one into the lower realms, so it is difficult to obtain from the perspective of conditions. For example, in the boundless ocean, there is a yoke with only one hole drifting along, and a turtle living on the seabed comes to the surface of the ocean once every hundred years, and its neck попадает into the hole of the yoke, it is very difficult to obtain a human body, so it is difficult to obtain from the perspective of analogy. Not only that, but obtaining a human body also has great significance. Because temporarily one can accomplish the cause of the body and perfect enjoyment of the happy realm of the heavens—discipline and generosity, etc., and not only that, but one can also obtain the autonomy to liberate from the Hinayana Nirvana and accomplish the fruit of the Mahayana unsurpassed Bodhi, so at this time one must practice the true Dharma in any way, one must think like this from the bottom of one's heart and cultivate it. Second, cultivate the impermanence of death: Even if you obtain such a human body, it is impermanent and changing.

It seems that this is indeed the nature of things. Because among sentient beings, there is no one who is born and remains alive without dying. All these beings now cannot escape death. Therefore, I myself am certain to die. Moreover, death does not discriminate between old and young, and it comes suddenly, so there is no knowing when one will die. Therefore, the body is as fragile as a water bubble, and the breath is like autumn mist, which can disappear at any moment. The mind is like a blind person wandering in the wilderness, without the freedom to go anywhere. In short, the causes of death are everywhere. Not only are the causes of harm, such as disease, enemies, demons, fire, water, poison, and weapons, countless, but even relying on food, shelter, medicine, etc., as aids to sustain life,

The Realm of Suffering: Even associating with friends is associating with suffering. Relying on any possessions does not transcend the experience of suffering. Therefore, one should escape from this suffering-filled cycle of existence like a criminal fleeing from prison. The way to liberate oneself from it is to understand the ripening of karma and its results without error. Thus, our intelligence lies in desiring happiness, and not wanting suffering. It is the nature of things that good causes bring about happiness, and bad causes bring about suffering. Therefore, the causes of suffering to be abandoned are the ten non-virtuous actions: killing, taking what is not given, sexual misconduct, lying, harsh speech, divisive speech, idle chatter, covetousness, malice, and wrong views. Killing is intentionally and without error killing sentient beings. Taking what is not given is robbing or stealing the property of others. Sexual misconduct is indulging in the pleasure of sexual activity in places that are not appropriate for sexual activity. Lying is transforming understanding from the truth and speaking artificial words that are understood by others. Harsh speech is uttering rude words that cause others to be displeased. Divisive speech is speech that divides the friendship of others. Idle chatter is speech that is none of the previous three, but rather speech of laughter and other afflictions. Covetousness is being attached and craving for the wealth of others with the desire to obtain it. Malice is anger that thinks of harming others. Wrong view is seeing that virtue and non-virtue do not exist even conventionally, and thus it is the ten non-virtues. Furthermore, all actions of body and speech that are instigated by the three poisons are non-virtuous. If these seven aspects of body and speech are solely possessed by a virtuous mind, then they will be transformed into merit. Otherwise, these non-virtuous actions become great, medium, and small depending on the strength of the motivation, and as a result, one is born in the hells, as a hungry ghost, or as an animal. The result of acting in accordance with the cause is that one enjoys killing. The result of experiencing in accordance with the cause is that even if one is born in a happy realm, one's life is short. The result of the dominant cause is that external medicines are weak. Taking what is not given also has its results.
