A Guide to the All-Encompassing Mind of Kunsang: A Clear Illumination of the Essential Core Herein lies the guide called "A Clear Illumination of the Essential Core," pertaining to the All-Encompassing Mind of Kunsang. Oṃ Svasti (藏文,梵文天城体:ओंस्वस्ति,梵文罗马拟音:oṃ svasti,汉语字面意思:嗡,吉祥) Homage to the Lama! From the self-arising power of Dharmadhatu Samantabhadra, within the mandala of peaceful and wrathful, vast and expansive victorious ones, to the feet of the Lama, the source of appearance, the root and lineage, the all-encompassing, I offer prostrations with all things. The basis where the currents of the nine vehicles converge, the supreme heart essence of the secret precepts of Atiyoga, the guide to the All-Encompassing Mind of Samantabhadra, is here spread as an easy birth for the dull-witted. Here, to show the ultimate path, the single journey of all victorious ones and their heirs, the stages of the profound path of the All-Encompassing Mind of Kunsang, to generate joy in disciples, to introduce certainty through the door of history, and after opening the door of empowerment to ripen the stream of being according to the teachings, to show the actual path of liberating instructions: the most diligent attain liberation in this life, the middling in the bardo, and the lowest in the realm of the spontaneously arisen Sambhogakaya. Of these three, the first is the preliminaries to make oneself a suitable vessel for meditating on the profound path. The actual practice is to engage in the actual meditation on the profound path. The subsequent stage is to establish the result of meditating on the profound path. Of these three, the first involves purifying the mind-stream with the common preliminaries, and establishing the view with the uncommon preliminaries. In the first, there is the general explanation of the commitments of the preliminaries, and the specific explanation of the different ways of meditating on the stages of visualization. The first is: Meditate on impermanence, compassion, bodhicitta, etc. As it is said, by mentioning impermanence, compassion, and bodhicitta as primary, it shows that one should train the mind in all the paths of definitive meaning. That is, by contemplating the difficulty of finding leisure and endowment, one ascertains the basis of impermanence. By meditating on the impermanence of death, one reverses attachment to this life. By knowing the faults of samsara, one definitely turns away from the prosperity of existence and takes refuge in the Three Jewels. By contemplating the law of cause and effect, one does not err in the key points of what to adopt and abandon. By meditating on loving-kindness and compassion, one abandons self-cherishing and generates bodhicitta in one's mind-stream, therefore it is practiced as the common path of the Great Vehicle.

Secondly, regarding the specific explanation of the stages of meditation: contemplate the difficulty of finding leisure and opportunity; meditate on impermanence and death; contemplate the faults of samsara and value the law of karma; train the mind with the four immeasurables; take refuge; generate bodhicitta; purify obscurations with Vajrasattva meditation and recitation; accumulate merit with the mandala offering; and practice guru yoga and the nine practices. The first thing to know at the beginning of all sessions is: in a secluded place, gather the conducive conditions for meditation, straighten the body in a comfortable seat, relax the mind, and exhale three times. Visualize the guru on the crown of the head, pray with devotion and intense longing, and dissolve into oneself. This is the preliminary practice for the session, which comes from the tradition of the lamas. Then, first contemplate the difficulty of finding leisure and opportunity: one must now liberate oneself from this unbearable suffering of samsara. The basis for achieving liberation is none other than the human body with leisure and opportunity. Therefore, now that we have obtained this human body with leisure and opportunity, endowed with eighteen qualities, we must accomplish the ultimate goal. If we do not accomplish it now, it will be very difficult to obtain such a basis later. For if we are born in the hells, as hungry ghosts, or as animals, the three lower realms, we will be preoccupied with intense suffering. The gods are distracted by attachment to sensual pleasures and have little lifespan, so they have no time to practice. To be born in a place where the Buddha has not appeared, or where the Dharma has not spread even if the Buddha has appeared, or in a remote and barbaric land, or as a heretic who does not believe in karma, or as a fool who does not know what to adopt or abandon in the Dharma, or as one born mute and dumb. These eight are without leisure to practice the Dharma. A human body free from these eight faults has leisure to practice the Dharma, so it is called leisure. In addition, obtaining a human body, being born in a central land where the Dharma flourishes, having all five senses complete, not having committed any of the five heinous crimes and thus not having fallen into evil destinies, and having faith in the Buddha's teachings, these five are self-endowments. The Buddha appearing in the world, teaching the sacred Dharma, the Dharma abiding, oneself entering the Dharma, and having the supportive conditions for Dharma practice, these are other-endowments. In short, the eight unfree states
