One should think intensely about death, as if asking, "Have you finished your work?" The Lord of Death will not stay. What should be practiced? The sacred Dharma. Strive for it today. Like this. The great teacher said: Half of the short life is spent in the sleep of ignorance, and two-thirds of the remaining half are spent in scattered busyness. Even the remaining one-third is full of obstacles and the control of circumstances. Therefore, conditioned phenomena move like autumn clouds, life is as unstable as lightning in the sky, karma follows like a shadow, and the youthful body also decays rapidly. At that time, striving for beneficial methods is most important. Therefore, from the depths of your heart, from the marrow of your bones, generate the fear of impermanence of death, and meditate on it repeatedly. Third, regarding the guidance on contemplating how karmic results ripen: From the Key Treasury, it says: Determine that karmic results are infallible. Think like this: Death is true. However, like ashes blown away by the wind after a fire is extinguished, where is there an opportunity for rebirth again? If so, is it not necessary to practice Dharma? If it is true that nothing exists after death, then there is nothing to worry about. But it is not that nothing exists. The sutra says: The actions of sentient beings will not be wasted even after hundreds of kalpas. When the causes and conditions come together and the time is ripe, they will naturally ripen into results. Just as different fruits ripen from sweet seeds, the causes of happiness and suffering are virtuous and non-virtuous actions. Therefore, those who desire liberation must correctly adopt and abandon. The great teacher said: What is the use of happiness in this life from sins that cause suffering in many lifetimes? This life is short, only a few years, but the next life is immeasurable. In order not to suffer in the next life, one should adopt virtue and abandon evil as a means to attain happiness. Like this. It is divided into four points: the distinction between virtue and non-virtue, the boundary, the weight, and the result. First, the distinction. There are ten virtuous actions, depending on the task to be accomplished and the way to accomplish it: saving the lives of sentient beings, giving without attachment, abiding in celibacy, these are the three actions of the body. Speaking truthfully, speaking peacefully and pleasantly, reconciling discord, praising the qualities of others, these are the four actions of speech. Being content, loving others, believing in karmic results, this is the mind.

Are the three actions (of body, speech, and mind). Furthermore, depending on the way of teaching and learning, there are also ten. As stated in the Madhyāntavibhāga: Writing, offering, giving, listening, reading, memorizing, explaining, reciting, thinking about it, and meditating on it. The nature of these ten practices is an immeasurable accumulation of merit. Thus it is. Depending on the way of entrusting the common lineage, there are the ten perfections such as generosity. Such virtues, even if they are very small, should not be underestimated, but should be accepted, because accumulating small virtues will eventually become great, just as drops of water gradually fill a vase. As stated in the Compendium: Just as a vase is gradually filled with small drops of water from the beginning to the end, in the same way, the initial mind is the cause of enlightenment, and gradually perfecting pure qualities, one eventually becomes a Buddha. Thus it is. Similarly, regarding the opposite of virtue, from the perspective of abandoning what should be abandoned and how to abandon it, non-virtuous actions, from the perspective of the doer, have three divisions of body, speech, and mind, totaling ten: Intentionally and without error killing sentient beings; taking what is not given by stealing or robbing another's property; engaging in sexual misconduct with an inappropriate partner, which is sexual misconduct; these are the three actions of the body. Lying by reversing the perception of truth; harsh words that cause others to be disgusted; divisive words that separate the friendship of others; all speech with afflictions other than the above three is idle chatter, which are the four actions of speech. Coveting the wealth of others, even if one does not have it, wishing to possess it; harmful thoughts of hatred towards others; and wrong views such as believing that virtuous and non-virtuous actions do not exist even conventionally, these are the three actions of the mind. Furthermore, in terms of the object, there are the five inexpiable sins and the five near inexpiable sins: Killing one's father, killing one's mother, killing an arhat, causing dissension in the sangha, and drawing blood from the body of the Tathagata with malicious intent, these are the five inexpiable sins. Destroying stupas, killing bodhisattvas, causing an arhat nun to disrobe, killing a learned monk, and stealing the property of the sangha, these are the five near inexpiable sins. Furthermore, in terms of both the object and the action, there are twelve heavy and perverse transgressions. Among them, the four heavy ones are: Being at the head of the wise, receiving the prostrations of monks, enjoying the food of practitioners, and possessing the wealth of tantrikas, these are called the four perverse heavy transgressions.
