It is the same. Not knowing when one will die and being unable to be eternal is like a bird on a treetop, not knowing whether it will fly away now or not. Death approaches closer and closer every moment, like the shadow of the aging sun or an animal being led to the slaughterhouse. The causes of death are not without reason; even expecting beneficial things can become causes of death. Therefore, having seen and heard of so many beings, enemies, friends, and neutrals, dying. In short, one cannot be sure that one will not die even tonight, like a moth meeting a flame or like a collision of stars. Therefore, at the time of death, nothing other than the Dharma will be of any help. Neither the house one has built, nor the wealth one has accumulated, nor beloved relatives and friends will follow. In short, those who are born will eventually die, those who gather will eventually separate, those who accumulate will eventually be exhausted, and those who are high will eventually fall; one cannot go beyond these four laws. Therefore, just as a sick person on the verge of death does not make plans for tomorrow, with strong renunciation and aversion, one should abandon all activities such as the power, wealth, and enjoyment of this life, and without allowing oneself a moment of leisure, one should use one's body, speech, and mind for the sacred Dharma, like a great fire blazing at the end of an eon, and strive day and night like turning a wheel of fire. As it is said in the Sutra of Advice to the King: "When the time comes for the king to depart, enjoyments and friends will not follow. Wherever beings go, karma follows like a shadow." And as the teacher Ashvaghosa said: "On earth or in heaven, is there anyone who is born and does not die? Have you seen or heard of such a thing, or do you have doubts?" And: "Wherever one goes, there is no place where one can escape death. It is not in the sky, nor in the depths of the ocean, nor in the caves of all the mountains." The Omniscient Dharma Lord said: "This life is impermanent like a clay pot. The appearances of the next life and the future life, there is no certainty which will come first. Therefore, from this very day, accumulate the treasure of the sacred Dharma." Having generated certainty in these words, it is crucial to repeatedly meditate on the impermanence of death. Third, contemplate the law of cause and effect and the suffering of samsara.

The instruction on transference is: The root is, if impermanence is shown, happiness and suffering are not without cause; like sweet seeds, fruits ripen. From practicing non-virtue, one falls into hells, hungry ghosts, animals, asuras, and other lower realms. One experiences unbearable sufferings such as heat, cold, hunger, thirst, ignorance, fighting, migration, and falling. From practicing virtue, one temporarily obtains pleasing happiness, and ultimately attains the happiness of peace and nirvana. Therefore, abandon non-virtue like a pit of fire, and practice the sacred Dharma of virtue sincerely from the heart. As it is said. Although death is true, it is the great path for everyone. If you think, what is there to fear about it? If one does not need to take rebirth after death and the mind goes to nothingness, that would be enough. But since it does not go to nothingness, one must definitely take rebirth. For example, just as sweet seeds ripen into their respective fruits, the causes of virtue and non-virtue ripen into the fruits of happiness and suffering, and each experiences them individually. As it is said in the sutra: The actions of sentient beings will not be wasted even in a hundred eons. When they gather and the time comes, they will definitely ripen into their fruits. As it is said. For those who desire liberation, it is crucial not to mistake the acceptance and rejection of virtue and vice. The reason for this is that one has no right to take the virtue that one has not done oneself, and one has no right to abandon the evil that one has already done. At the time of death, both virtuous and non-virtuous actions follow, so at this time when distinguishing between going up and going down, one must practice and desire without reversing, and all virtuous actions, from the smallest to the smallest, must be accomplished. For example, just as a drop of water fills a vase completely from the beginning to the end, it is the cause of generating all white qualities in one's own mindstream, so it should be relied upon like a medicine for reviving from death. As it is said in the Compendium: Just as a drop of water gradually fills a vase from the beginning to the end, in the same way, the initial mind is also the cause of enlightenment, and gradually the qualities of white dharma are perfected and one becomes a Buddha. Similarly, all non-virtuous actions must be abandoned from the smallest, because even a small spark of fire, when it encounters the wind, can destroy a mountain of grass and trees in an instant. All the virtues that are in harmony with merit are destroyed by a single burst of intense anger.
