For this, I wish to practice the profound Dzogchen instructions. Then, visualize on the crown of your head, on a lotus and moon seat, the root guru himself, with clear and complete marks and features. Recite in your speech: Essence of all Buddhas of the three times, Lama Rinpoche, think of me. Please bless my being. Thus, with fervent faith, supplicate earnestly three times, and the lama, with great joy, dissolves into light and merges into oneself, and the three vajras of the lama and one's own three doors are inseparably united in equipoise, and then dedicate the merit. Although this is not explicitly stated in the text itself, it is the practice of the previous lamas to take it as a preliminary guide for each session or meditation. Second, the preliminaries of the path are twofold: the common preliminaries and the uncommon preliminaries of the mantra path. This is a branch. Here, in order to guide, the root words of the terma text are only taught and transmitted to reliable students, and should not be treated lightly to others. The first part, when explained extensively, has six sections, and when explained briefly, has three sections, etc. Here, according to the medium oral explanation, in accordance with the root instructions of the terma text, it is divided into five sections. First, the guidance on contemplating the difficulty of obtaining leisure and endowment. The root instruction, the vajra verse, says: This precious human body of leisure and endowment, which is difficult to obtain, whatever the causes, conditions, analogies, and numbers are examined, it is difficult to obtain, and all Buddhas rely on it to attain enlightenment. Therefore, having contemplated the difficulty of obtaining leisure and endowment, generate joy as if a poor person has found a treasure, and practice the sacred Dharma day and night without delay. Think like this. That is, I have now obtained the precious human body with the complete leisure and endowment of eighteen qualities. The five senses are complete, taken care of by the guru and virtuous friend, met with the sacred Dharma, have the autonomy to practice the Dharma, and have the opportunity to know how to practice, so one must obtain liberation from the suffering of samsara. Why is that? For example, like a poor person finding a wish-fulfilling jewel, if one does not strive diligently at this rare and precious time, then no matter what causes, conditions, analogies, and numbers one thinks about later, such a combination of circumstances will not occur again. Therefore

Just as one needs to cross a river when there is a boat, a hero's army needs to conquer the enemy, and one needs to sow all kinds of seeds when water, fertilizer, warmth, and moisture are abundant, at this time when the favorable conditions for attaining enlightenment are complete, do not be attached to the happiness and wealth of this life, such as food, clothing, and possessions. Think strongly: Shouldn't I do something to truly practice the supreme Dharma for the sake of future lives? The Bodhisattvacharyavatara says: "This leisure is extremely difficult to obtain. Now that you have obtained it, you should practice to accomplish your own benefit. If you merely waste this good opportunity, when will you obtain this body again?" Also, the Secret Inconceivable Sutra says: "The appearance of Buddhas in the world is rare among hundreds. This human body is obtained through accumulation. Alas, leisure and the attainment of Dharma are difficult to obtain even in hundreds of thousands of kalpas." The great scholar also said: "Like a lion on a white snow mountain, or like a Udumbara flower, like a star in the daytime, it is rare among hundreds." Therefore, think: Shouldn't I do some pure Dharma that will surely obtain the essence from leisure? Second, the guidance on contemplating impermanence: The root verse says: "Although obtained in this way, it is impermanent. The order of old, young, and middle-aged is uncertain. Like a lamp in the wind, a water bubble, or dew on a treetop. Likewise, even without leisure, death clings to the mind of permanence. Abandon it and contemplate death with strong renunciation. Practice Dharma from the heart and abandon the distractions of this life." Having said this, practicing Dharma should be like a fire on the head of a beautiful woman, or like a snake in the lap of a coward. Do not be lazy or procrastinate, but do it immediately. The reason for this is: In general, all conditioned phenomena are impermanent, and in particular, the life of a person is impermanent even for a moment and cannot be relied upon. From birth onwards, apart from slight differences in the length of life, there is no one who can escape death. In short, even the order of old, young, and middle-aged is uncertain, and death is certain. Therefore, life does not increase, but decreases like a pond with a hole in the bottom that has its source cut off. The causes of death are like a candle in the wind and rain. Life is unstable and deceptive, like a water bubble.
