Without the gathering and dispersing of thoughts, in the state where no grasping arises towards the perceived objects, being clear, bright, and open, like an autumn sky free from clouds, abiding serenely in luminous emptiness, this is Śamatha (calm abiding). Realizing appearances as illusory, without engaging in grasping, realizing the nature as space-like, while appearances are not obstructed, the wisdom of non-duality of appearance and mind, the reality of emptiness and clarity, free from elaboration, seeing it nakedly and thoroughly, this is Vipaśyanā (insight). That is to say, the aspect of abiding where the arising of conceptual thoughts naturally subsides is Śamatha. The aspect of clarity that sees reality nakedly is Vipaśyanā. Without difference, the essence is one taste, therefore, it is determined to be spontaneously accomplished in the nature of one union. As it is said in the "Sūtra Unraveling of Intentions": "The Śamatha of the arising one, and if Vipaśyanā is practiced, then from the bonds of bad migrations, and from the bonds of signs, one will be liberated." And as it is said in the "Bodhicaryāvatāra": "With Śamatha, one subdues the head of afflictions, with Vipaśyanā, one uproots the root of afflictions." That is to say, whatever conceptual thought arises, by looking at it with effortless mindfulness, it naturally subsides, and the arising and liberation are simultaneous. The awareness of arising and liberation, clear, pure, and naked, that is Vipaśyanā. The aspect of whatever arises naturally subsiding, and abiding together with awareness and clarity, that is Śamatha. In short, without negating the objects of the six consciousnesses, let the five senses relax naturally, with the self-knowing of awareness, not following after objects, clear and pure, practicing in a natural state without hope, doubt, fabrication, or artifice, then the appearance of objects and the grasping mind are not abandoned, but naturally liberated in their own place. Appearance and mind are liberated as non-dual, and even the five kinds of clairvoyance, such as the divine eye, will be attained without effort. The parts of awareness during meditation, the inseparability of emptiness-clarity and arising-liberation, are also identified, and the way of introducing them by combining them with the four bodies is the same as in the view, and in Samāhita (equanimity) Practicing the reality, and the stages of post-meditation differentiation, etc., are also introduced without confusion. Third is the introduction of conduct: Previously, when practicing the view, although it has been determined that all dharmas are like illusory appearances, not truly existent, but merely luminous appearances. However, at this time of distinguishing conduct, what needs to be understood is that as long as the conceptual thought of self-grasping has not dissolved into the Dharmadhātu, then even knowing that everything is empty, the results of actions will still appear infallibly. For example, in a dream.

Just as in the light of a fire, smoke also appears in illusion. Therefore, in a state of non-attachment to anything, one should practice without mistakenly adopting or rejecting good and evil, and integrate the three vows harmoniously on a single seat. In brief, from the perspective of the Pratimoksha vows, one should abandon all actions that harm others, both directly and indirectly. From the perspective of the Bodhisattva vows, one should accomplish benefit with the altruistic intention of cherishing others more than oneself. From the perspective of the Mantra vows, one should generate pure perception and devotion, as the innate mind of all sentient beings is primordially complete as the deity of the three vajras, free from obscurations. In particular, one should know that the supreme lama is the embodiment of all Buddhas, and rely on him with limitless devotion and service. Conduct related to time is called intermediate training. The third is the introduction to the result. As it says in the "Precious Ocean": "Luminosity has four aspects, after completion is the place of great wisdom, appearance is non-conceptual, expansion is illusory wisdom, attainment is the noble path of the noble ones, near attainment is completion." Thus, the order of the four wisdoms shows the way to traverse the four paths of learning. That is, by meditating on the path of union of calm and insight, the activity of the mind subsides in the innate state of mind, and the clear, unwavering wisdom arises for the first time, which is the first luminosity, the wisdom of appearance, having grasped the path of liberation, and the qualities of the accumulation path gradually manifest. Then, because the wisdom of the emptiness and clarity of mind is much more familiar than before, appearances are realized as dreamlike illusions, and the nature of all dharmas is realized as one taste, which is the second luminosity, the wisdom of expansion, and the qualities of the path of preparation are attained. Then, because of greater familiarity, the luminosity of mind, the wisdom of luminosity, is seen for the first time without outflows, which is the third luminosity, the wisdom of attainment, and the qualities of the first ground, the path of seeing, are attained. Then, because of greater increase, making what has been seen more familiar, this is the fourth luminosity, called the wisdom of near attainment, and the qualities of the nine paths of meditation gradually manifest, and the stains of the nine co-emergent grounds are purified. As it says in the Lankavatara Sutra: "The seven grounds are the mind, the non-appearance is the eighth, the supreme ground and the Buddhas, those are mine."
