Thus it is. Secondly, one will always remember past lives and will not fall due to karma. As it is said in the "Ratnavali": "For the sake of Dharma and likewise, remembering the essence of the scriptures, and the pure giving of Dharma, one will obtain the remembrance of all lifetimes." Also, as it is said in the "Sutra Requested by Sagaramati": "Those who hold the sacred Dharma of the Tathagatas, will be endowed with memory and intelligence, and will become intelligent. They will possess vast wisdom, and at all times be endowed with knowledge. The wise will abandon afflictions along with their imprints." Thirdly, temporarily, one becomes a virtuous friend who teaches the Dharma to others; ultimately, one becomes the Dharma King, the complete and perfect Buddha, and by teaching others the fruit that corresponds to liberation, one obtains the fruit of Nirvana, which is superior to material giving. As it is said in the "Maitreya Lion's Roar Sutra": "If someone were to fill Buddha-fields as numerous as the sands of the Ganges with the seven precious substances, and offer them to the Buddhas with great joy, it would be less than if someone were to give a single verse to a single sentient being. The giving of precious substances is very great, but the giving of a verse accomplished with compassion, its measure of merit, even rain cannot reach, how much less two or three?" Also, in the sutra it says: "If one were to fill this three-thousandfold great thousand world system with pure gold, and give it as a gift, it would be less than reciting a single four-line verse. Its benefit is not like that." This is the benefit of merely speaking the Dharma. In particular, the benefit of teaching the Mahayana Dharma is superior to placing all sentient beings in the state of Arhat; writing and giving away Mahayana Dharma scriptures, its benefit is even more excellent. As it is said in the "Compendium Sutra": "If one were to subdue all sentient beings and lead them to the state of Arhat, it would be less than writing this Prajnaparamita and giving the scripture to excellent beings, its merit is especially superior." Therefore, the benefit of teaching the secret mantra is immeasurable. As it is said in the "Guhyagarbha Tantra": "Whoever realizes and speaks, the mudra of all the Tathagatas, this great secret essence, that very one is me, and also perfectly free." Also, as it is said in the "Wrathful Lightning Sutra": "The Vajra master who teaches this scripture

The master is not only a holy person, but should also be regarded as the supreme and perfectly complete Buddha, the Great Vajradhara. As it is said in other texts: The secret of the Great Vehicle is a single path of words. Once one has entered into it, even if one were to offer to countless Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, and to countless Buddhas and their sons, with accumulations of offerings and merits, it would not be worth even a billionth part. In the Root Tantra, it is said: Those who truly accomplish the meaning of body, speech, and mind vajra, and who speak after having realized it, through the power of habituated speech and aspiration, they will become the king of Dharma, and will attain perfect qualities. Whoever recites mantras in this place becomes the Lord of Secrets, the king of Dharma. Therefore, praise and proclaim this secret of the Great Vehicle to all. Secondly, the benefits of hearing for the listener: Even just hearing the sound of the Dharma drum being struck will lead to the attainment of enlightenment, so what need is there to mention those who come specifically to hear the Dharma? In the Gandi Sutra, it is said: In order to indicate the time for teaching the sacred Dharma, the sound of the drum or Gandi being struck, even hearing it will lead to the attainment of enlightenment, so what need is there to say about those who come to hear the Dharma? Hearing the Dharma will lead to understanding the points of what to accept and reject. In the Bodhisattva Pitaka, it is said: Just as one with eyes can see forms when there is a lamp, so too, hearing will lead to the distinct knowledge of virtuous and non-virtuous dharmas. In the Uttaratantra, it is said: Wisdom is the cause of the arising of afflictions and objects of knowledge, therefore, hearing is the supreme cause of both. Furthermore, hearing leads to the knowledge of dharmas, hearing turns one away from sin, hearing abandons meaningless things, and hearing attains Nirvana. In the Nirvana Without Sorrow Prophecy Sutra, it is also said: Ananda, rather than giving offerings by filling the three thousand great thousand world systems with various jewels, if one even hears this Dharma teaching, even if it only enters the ear, this one will generate even more merit. In the Arya Tathagatagarbha Mahakaruna Nama Mahayana Sutra, it is said: Whatever Buddha-field is seen, filled with jewels,
