What is the reason for being called "Vajra"? It is named by combining example and exemplification. The substance that comes from the bones of the ascetic who drinks milk, called diamond (Tibetan: རྡོ་རྗེ་ཕ་ལམ།), can destroy all external phenomenal dharmas, but its own essence cannot be destroyed by anything. Therefore, in the context of the qualities of the Vajra, as stated in the scriptures, it possesses seven qualities: indestructible, imperishable, true, hard, firm, unobstructed, and undefeated. Similarly, the nature of mind abiding in emptiness can also destroy all dharmas with characteristics, but the essence of that emptiness cannot be destroyed by any phenomenal dharma, therefore emptiness is called Vajra. Thus, the first part of the name, "Vajra," is explained. Next, the second part, "Sattva" (Tibetan: སེམས་དཔའ།), meaning Bodhisattva, is explained. "All dharmas are non-dual, self-awareness is the nature of Bodhicitta." The word Sattva (Bodhisattva) has various meanings, such as sentient being, brave, strong-minded, stable, inclusive, and realized. Here, it refers to the three meanings of stable, inclusive, and realized. Therefore, there are three types: stable Bodhisattva, inclusive Bodhisattva, and realized Bodhisattva. First, the stable Bodhisattva, as mentioned above, is that emptiness itself is not merely empty, but the nature of inseparable appearance and emptiness. The appearing aspect is the self-born wisdom of skillful means and knowledge. That self-born wisdom of skillful means and knowledge is inseparable in essence and of one taste with the wisdom of emptiness. Its nature is completely pure when united in duality, and it is stable like a vajra. Therefore, the essence of the mind, the non-dual self-born wisdom of appearance and emptiness, does not become worse in the state of samsara, nor does it become better in the state of nirvana, but remains unchanging. Therefore, from the perspective of the unchanging nature of mind, it is called the stable Bodhisattva. As Lord Maitreya said: "As it was before, so it is later, the nature of dharma is unchanging." Secondly, the inclusive Bodhisattva is that which, through its mudra, imprints all the dharmas of samsara and nirvana, including them in equality. That is, the nature of mind, which is non-dual appearance and emptiness, pervades all the dharmas of samsara and nirvana, just as oil pervades sesame seeds. As the sutra says: The Tathagatagarbha pervades all.

Oh, pervading all. As stated in the Hevajra Tantra: "This is great wisdom, residing in the stable and the moving, pervading all." As stated in the Vajramala: "The realm residing in the center of all dharmas, pervading and not an object of experience." And so on, extensively spoken. For example, just as when a great king's command is sealed with a seal, the subjects cannot transgress it, similarly, all dharmas cannot escape the nature of emptiness. If measured from the perspective of the natural wisdom of the mind's dharma, then samsara as something to be abandoned and nirvana as something to be attained are not established as different, but are gathered into equality. As stated in the Hevajra Tantra: "This is called samsara, this is called nirvana, having abandoned samsara, there is no nirvana elsewhere." Therefore. The realized bodhisattva is the Vajrasattva of the fruit manifested by a person who has exhausted the two obscurations and perfected the two accumulations. That is to say, these two, stability and condensation, are established from the perspective of the mind's nature or essence. And the realized or fruit Vajrasattva is established from the perspective of appearance or nature. Although the way of abiding is such, in the way of appearance, samsara and nirvana appear as good and bad. Therefore, a person seeking liberation strives on both the path and means in order to realize the meaning of the mind's nature. When will all the stains of sudden ignorance be purified, thereby manifesting the true meaning of the mind, that is called realizing one's own mind as Buddha, which is the fruit Vajrasattva. As stated in the Ada Kala Wisdom: "If the mind is realized, it is Buddha, therefore one should diligently cultivate the thought of not seeking Buddha elsewhere." Garab Dorje said: "The nature of mind is inherently Buddha (Tibetan: སེམས་ཀྱི་རང་བཞིན་ཡེ་ནས་བུདྡྷ་སྟེ།), because the mind has no birth or cessation, it is like space." The wisdom that is realized also transforms into non-duality like a vajra. Therefore, the wisdom of non-duality of appearance and emptiness that exists in the mindstream of such a realized person transforms into such non-duality, therefore, the name Vajrasattva is also given to that person. Therefore, giving the name Vajrasattva to the lineage...
